Bagel café in Suwon for moms after daycare drop-off: Orange Bagel

Orange Bagel is a large three-floor bagel bakery café on Omokcheon-ro in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi. A group of moms visited on a weekday morning after daycare drop-off and ordered the Deep Choco Bagel (6,300 won), the scallion cream bacon bagel (8,500 won) and mushroom cream soup (7,500 won). The writer, a self-confessed chocolate-bread lover, found the Deep Choco Bagel chewier than a chocolate baguette and easier to eat with no crumbs. Verdict: with its wide bagel range and roomy space, Orange Bagel is a Suwon bagel café that works for friends, couples and families alike.

Jeongja-dong, Suwon café with kids' drawing books: Café Meomureum

Café Meomureum is a quiet neighborhood café and dessert shop on the 2nd floor of the Dongsin Apartment shopping complex in Jeongja-dong, Suwon. On a weekend afternoon with a child, the popular salt bread at Café Meomureum was already sold out, so the order became 2 iced americanos with Basque cheesecake and a red bean bun, both of which paired well with the coffee. Parking and the lack of an elevator are drawbacks, but the roomy, quiet space and kid-friendly touches like drawing books make Café Meomureum feel like a true neighborhood living room.

Jedam Kalguksu Hyangnam Branch is a seafood kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup) restaurant on Pyeong 6-gil in Hyangnam-eup, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. On the way back from the Hwaseong Independence Movement Memorial Hall, a couple and their child ordered seafood kalguksu for two and a homemade pork loin cutlet. At Jedam Kalguksu you eat the whole squid and other seafood first, then ask staff to add the noodles to the simmering broth. With a kids' menu and tasty fresh geotjeori kimchi, Jedam Kalguksu made a satisfying family lunch.
