Jeongja-dong, Suwon café with kids' drawing books: Café Meomureum

In short

Café Meomureum is a quiet neighborhood café and dessert shop on the 2nd floor of the Dongsin Apartment shopping complex in Jeongja-dong, Suwon. On a weekend afternoon with a child, the popular salt bread at Café Meomureum was already sold out, so the order became 2 iced americanos with Basque cheesecake and a red bean bun, both of which paired well with the coffee. Parking and the lack of an elevator are drawbacks, but the roomy, quiet space and kid-friendly touches like drawing books make Café Meomureum feel like a true neighborhood living room.

A quiet café with a lovely atmosphere, fair prices and tasty desserts. This is Café Meomureum (카페 머무름) in Jeongja-dong, Suwon.

Where is Café Meomureum, and is there parking?

Café Meomureum is on the 2nd floor of the Dongsin Apartment shopping complex in Jeongja-dong, Suwon. It's an apartment complex arcade in an old building, so there's no underground parking and no elevator. Still, I recommend it if you'd rather stay somewhere quiet than a crowded café 👍🏻 It was also my husband's old neighborhood, so coming back after so long felt kind of emotional.

Parking at Dongsin Apartment is hard in general, so I didn't expect much, but luckily there was one free spot in the lot in front of the building.

Café Meomureum menu: can you still get salt bread on a weekend?

Drink prices at Café Meomureum are reasonable, and the dessert selection was surprisingly varied. The salt bread seemed to be the famous item, but being so popular, it was already sold out on a weekend afternoon.

What can kids do at Café Meomureum?

After ordering, I came back to the table and found all of Muu's going-out gear already pulled out 🤦🏻‍♀️ It's too early for screens, and I want to put that off as long as I can, so these dining-out items have piled up one by one. Paper, stickers and crayons made our café time fun for Muu.

Spacious interior of Café Meomureum

The inside of Café Meomureum was surprisingly spacious 👍🏻 There's no elevator, but it's only the 2nd floor, so it was fine (a stroller would be inconvenient, though Muu walks around now). There was a high chair, but Muu wanted to sit in the grown-up chairs, so we didn't use it. Thanks to the dining-out gear, Muu sat nicely even in a regular chair!

There's also a drawing book set out in one corner of Café Meomureum, which felt thoughtful toward customers who come with kids.

The main space with cute props and artwork

The main space at Café Meomureum has cute little props, and the tables are nicely spaced out. There were lots of pieces that looked hand-drawn, so it was fun to look around too.

Solo seats beside the counter: good for studying?

There's an open door to the right of the counter at Café Meomureum, and when I stepped in, there was a space full of single seats, like a study café. Being a neighborhood café, it looked like a good place to study during quiet weekday hours. There were some customers on the weekend too, but it was still a nice spot to stay quietly and head home.

I was bummed there was no salt bread, but the Basque cheesecake and the red bean bun were both delicious. They're great with coffee too 👍🏻 Yep, this really is a dessert hotspot! 👏🏻👏🏻

Who Café Meomureum is best for

Café Meomureum sits in an arcade building next to apartment complexes, so it felt like a neighborhood café you'd drop into like a community living room whenever guests visit or you make plans. The drinks were good, the desserts were tasty, and the space was bigger than expected, with a quiet mood. The downside is the tight parking, but people living nearby probably walk over a lot. It was a lovely time with Muu.
