When you travel in Gangwon you naturally go looking for a good raw fish place, but prices have gone up and it's a tourist area, so sashimi is one of those foods that gets pricey and a bit stressful. Eosiljang is popular as a takeout spot with good value and fresh fish.

Eosiljang focuses on takeout and delivery, so I recommend calling ahead to reserve before you go.

When I got there, a friendly cat greeted me, haha!

What does the mixed sashimi platter for two look like?
I ordered the mixed sashimi platter for two (₩50,000), and it was packed neatly in tidy takeout containers. Off to the lodging we go!
They asked how long it would take to get to my lodging and put in the right amount of ice packs. While I waited for the packing, phone orders kept coming in nonstop, so if you're getting takeout, it's best to reserve ahead.

Here's what you get: two single-serving boxes of mixed sashimi, plus lettuce, gochujang vinegar sauce (chogochujang) and seaweed.

The fish and seafood in the platter for two
Wow! When I opened the lid, it was neat and packed full of sashimi and seafood.
- Sea squirt, sliced abalone, turban shell
- Red sea bream, flounder, rockfish, fin meat
- Fruit cocktail (canned fruit), garlic and chili peppers, pickled rakkyo
- Filefish, flounder, rockfish, boiled shrimp

All the fish used for sashimi is domestic only. The mixed platter is Eosiljang's signature, and I heard it's filled with seasonal fish caught off the East Sea, so the lineup changes with the season. Flounder and rockfish are my favorites, and this box had plenty of both, so I was super happy, haha!

The packaging was clean and no-fuss, and it would be great to eat right in front of the sea. I ate it comfortably at my lodging, but seeing the sashimi packed so sharply in single servings, I had a brief pang of wishing I'd gone out to eat it, haha.

How are the portion size and freshness of the platter?
The platter has no tricks to make it look bigger; it's just honest food in the box. At a glance I wondered if it was a small portion, but once I ate it, the amount was quite generous.
Sashimi is raw, so freshness and cleanliness really matter. Peeking into the kitchen while they packed my order, it looked very clean and there was barely any fishy smell, so they seem to care a lot about hygiene.

Abalone and turban shell, plus the review-event abalone
The abalone and turban shell were seriously amazing.... Oh, and you can get one more abalone with the review event, so be sure to claim it. The abalone was really fresh, and its crunchy texture gave a strong taste of the sea. The turban shell, dipped lightly in the chogochujang, got sweeter the more I chewed. So good.

Rockfish, boiled shrimp and red sea bream
The chewy rockfish needs no introduction.... The big, well-cooked boiled shrimp were snappy and just irresistible.

I piled it into a lettuce leaf like this and took a big bite. My favorite combo is with the Cheongyang chili pepper >_<

And the red sea bream, known for its rich, soft flavor!

Would I recommend Eosiljang for sashimi takeout in Yangyang?
I'm a pretty picky eater and I can tell sashimi right away, and at Eosiljang every fish was fresh, so the texture really stood out. It's clean and no-fuss, with a variety of seasonal fish and great value. Enjoy the Yangyang sea with Eosiljang Sashimi Takeout :)
