Yeonnam-dong handmade burger shop, burgers-only takeout: Deombeogeo

In short

Deombeogeo Bonjeom (덤버거 본점) is a handmade burger restaurant on Donggyo-ro in Mapo, Seoul, between Hongik Univ. Station and Yeonnam-dong. The writer skipped the fries and soda, took out only a B.L.T Cheeseburger (₩11,900) and a Cheeseburger (₩8,900), and found the juicy beef patty paired well with the house-developed Deom sauce. Deombeogeo Bonjeom is a Yeonnam-dong burger spot where the burgers alone are satisfying, no sides needed.

Where is Deombeogeo Bonjeom and when is it open?

Deombeogeo Bonjeom (덤버거 본점) is at 244-1 Donggyo-ro, 2nd floor, Mapo-gu, Seoul, and it's open daily 10:00–04:00. It's a 6-minute walk from Exit 3 of Hongik Univ. Station, past Gyeongui Line Forest Park toward Yeonnam-dong.

I've been going to Yeonnam-dong a lot lately. Every now and then I crave a handmade burger, but I've found there aren't many great burger places in Yeonnam-dong. Then I heard a new one had opened, so I went. The cooking method keeps the patty juicy with a nice texture, and the sauce was developed in-house to bring out the natural flavor of the ingredients. The two go together really well.

This time it's Deombeogeo Bonjeom, a burger place near Hongik Univ. Station. It's a 6-minute walk from Exit 3, past Gyeongui Line Forest Park toward Yeonnam-dong.

Here's the shop's characterful exterior. It's on the 2nd floor of Yomi Gyoja Udon. It sits right on the main road, so it was easy to find. The rice-bowl place downstairs stands out, but Deombeogeo caught my eye more, haha.

There's a menu board outside too, so you can check the burgers before you go in. Nice touch.

Is the inside good for eating alone?

The interior is white and yellow, and there are solo tables along the window, so it looked comfortable for eating alone.

There's also a goofy Deombeogeo character.

Pickup, delivery and return zones are all clearly marked, which I liked.

Where the meat comes from

Origins are clearly displayed. The beef is from New Zealand and Australia, the pork from Spain, and the chicken from Brazil.

How to order and what's on the burger menu

You order at a kiosk, and there are two patty choices: beef or chicken. They grill the patties and fry the chicken in the shop, and they say everything is cooked to order.

They say they prepare fresh ingredients themselves every day to serve them at their best. The patty is cooked in a way that keeps it juicy with a good texture, aiming for the most satisfying balance in each bite. The chicken is thin and crispy, so it stays crunchy rather than soggy even with the bun, which is exactly my style, haha. And there are 11 kinds of burgers, which is huge, haha.

Is takeout with burgers only, no sides, enough?

I took out two burgers from Deombeogeo Bonjeom this time: a B.L.T cheeseburger (₩11,900) and a cheeseburger (₩8,900). As usual, I skipped the soda and fries and got just the burgers.

Carbs, protein and fat, all covered, haha. The burgers are tasty enough on their own that I never end up ordering sides.

Cross-section of the B.L.T cheeseburger with tomato and lettuce

The B.L.T cheeseburger comes on a brioche bun with a beef patty, bacon, lettuce, tomato, American cheese, pickles and Deom sauce. I like a lot of vegetables in my burger, and tomato especially is great because the juices of the patty and the tomato mingle and make it more flavorful, haha. And the Deom sauce they developed themselves is the kicker!!

The cheeseburger has a beef patty, American cheese, grilled onions, pickles and Deom sauce on a brioche bun. My partner ate the cheeseburger and gave it a thumbs up, saying next time they'll try the Double Cheeseburger with two patties, haha.

Overall verdict on Deombeogeo Bonjeom

This Yeonnam-dong handmade burger place cooks its patties to stay juicy with a good texture, and the in-house sauce, made to bring out the natural flavor of the ingredients, pairs really well with them. If you're craving a handmade burger in Yeonnam-dong, I recommend Deombeogeo Bonjeom.
