Songpa cake shop: reordering a raspberry lunchbox cake, Circus Rabbit
In short
Circus Rabbit is a lettering and lunchbox cake shop on the first basement floor (B1) of Jangmi Shopping Complex in Jamsil, Songpa, Seoul. After a milk cream lunchbox cake last time, this time the writer ordered a raspberry lunchbox cake from Circus Rabbit, and the raspberry lightened the rich milk-based whipped cream, so it was less cloying than expected. Circus Rabbit is a good pick for small celebrations when you want a cake that tastes as good as it looks.

These days, buying a whole cake can feel like too much, so lots of people put the meaning in the occasion and get a small cake instead. Big cakes are high in calories and take forever to finish, so something you can polish off in one go is honestly better.

How to book at Circus Rabbit and which cakes it makes
Most people use Circus Rabbit by reserving and picking up, and same-day orders are also possible. The range is wide, from lunchbox cakes to whole cakes, character cakes and lettering cakes.

Last time I ordered the milk cream flavor, and this time I went with raspberry. You can book through Naver, a KakaoTalk channel, Instagram and so on.

Circus Rabbit cake flavors: milk, raspberry or Oreo
It's not a place that leads only with cute designs. The flavor choices are pretty detailed too, which I like.

The basic flavors are milk, raspberry and Oreo, and I was told Oreo chocolate chip and seasonal fruit are also available. The seasonal fruit flavor costs extra and is only offered for whole cakes.

Can you buy candles at Circus Rabbit?
They also sell candles for simple cake decorating, so it's easy to pick some up when you buy.

And of course, you get one basic candle when you buy a cake!

How did the Circus Rabbit raspberry lunchbox cake taste?
In the Circus Rabbit raspberry lunchbox cake, the freshness of raspberry pops up here and there through the milk-based whipped cream, so it was less cloying than I expected. At first I worried the raspberry might be too sour, but when I actually ate it, it felt a little different from what I'd imagined.
It wasn't the heavy, thick, sticky-sweet type. Because of the milk-based whipped cream, a bright freshness kept coming up in between. You could say the raspberry balances out that typical heaviness of cake cream. So it didn't get tiresome and was nice to eat.

Why choose a lunchbox cake over a whole cake?
A lunchbox cake is the right size for one or two people, and it's cute when you open the packaging, so it's an easy gift. The lunchbox cake format has clear advantages of its own.
Whole cakes are pretty, but as I said earlier, there's often leftover, and they can feel like too much to eat alone or as a pair. A lunchbox cake is just the right size. The small size is no burden and perfect for photos. Especially, the cute feeling when you open the packaging is unmistakable, which makes it an easy gift.

I don't think lunchbox cakes are popular just because of their size. It seems to be because you can bring one along without any burden and still make it feel special with a message or design. Even though it's just one small cake, it feels much more like a real celebration than buying a slice of cake.

Can you eat in at Circus Rabbit?
The Circus Rabbit shop feels less like a café where you sit for a long time and more like a made-to-order, pick-up place. Still, it had a neat, tidy atmosphere, and you could definitely tell they put real care into even one small cake.
With custom-order cakes like this, it's sometimes more about design than taste, but here the flavor base was really good too.

When you pick up, they even set it up with a cute ribbon.

What occasions suit a Circus Rabbit cake?
Overall, I think Circus Rabbit suits people who want taste as well as looks rather than a cake that's only pretty. I'd say it's especially good on days when a big whole cake feels like too much, or when you want a thoughtful touch, like a friend's birthday or a small celebration gift.
