Why Neoul Magok for an outdoor aged sashimi date in Magok
Neoul Magok (너울 마곡본점) is an aged sashimi restaurant on the first floor of Magok IPark, and the outdoor seating in front makes it a great spot to eat sashimi in the breeze on an autumn evening. The weather was so nice that my partner and I wanted to enjoy good aged sashimi outside with the autumn wind. We looked for an outdoor spot in Magok with a good atmosphere and tasty aged sashimi, and that's how we ended up at Neoul Magok.

Indoor seats and outdoor seating at Neoul Magok
The inside of Neoul Magok has cozy, well-arranged seating, and it looked like a comfortable place to relax.

In front of the shop there's an outdoor area, which is perfect on a nice day like these for drinks and good snacks. We didn't hesitate at all, grabbed an outdoor table and soaked up the fresh air.

What's on the menu at Neoul Magok?
The menu had a wide range of fresh seafood dishes, including grilled king prawns, raw shrimp, the aged sashimi set, a seafood set and steamed seafood. There were also plenty of hot soups and stews, like whole whelk soup, freshwater shrimp spicy stew and clam hot pot, so there's a lot to choose from.
After some deliberation, we ordered the main dish, the small aged sashimi set, plus a lemon highball and a Coke Zero.

As soon as we ordered, they brought water and puffed rice crackers (ppeongtwigi), so we could snack lightly while we waited.

What comes in the small aged sashimi set?
The aged sashimi set at Neoul Magok arrives on one big tray with aged sashimi, choderi rice (sweet vinegar-teriyaki rice), soup, perilla leaves, minari (water dropwort) salad, white kimchi and assorted sauces. A little while later the tray came out piled high, and it was really generous. There was the thick-cut aged sashimi as the main, the sweet and tangy choderi rice to whet the appetite, a refreshing soup, fragrant perilla leaves, minari salad and white kimchi to cleanse the palate, and a variety of sauces to bring out the flavor of the fish. A complete spread!

How does Neoul Magok's aged sashimi taste?
What impressed me most was that the sashimi was cut thick and got chewier the more I chewed. Neoul's aged sashimi isn't just plain raw fish, there's a special technique behind it. They use their own salt-cured, low-temperature aging method, which is said to bring out the fish's deep savory flavor while keeping that distinctive chewy texture. Thanks to that, I got to taste what aged sashimi is really about.

The thick-cut sashimi was wonderfully chewy, clinging to the mouth with every bite.

How to eat aged sashimi: wraps, sauces and seaweed
Just dipping a piece in soy sauce with a little sharp wasabi brought out its natural nuttiness, and it was so good.

Wrapping it with the fragrant minari salad filled my whole mouth with aroma, and the combination was amazing!

Putting soft tuna on a crispy sheet of seasoned seaweed (Yangban gim brand) and wrapping it up was another treat you shouldn't miss.

DIY sushi with choderi rice
My favorite part of the aged sashimi set at Neoul Magok was the choderi rice! You can top the rice with wasabi and a thick slice of sashimi however you like and make your own sushi. It's fun, and it tastes every bit as good as a sushi restaurant.

Aged sashimi and lemon highball: a good pairing
The lemon highball at Neoul Magok went well with the aged sashimi. The cold, zesty lemon highball cleanly cut through the rich, chewy sashimi, so it tasted even better.

Feeling the fresh breeze, enjoying tasty aged sashimi with a cold lemon highball alongside my partner, it was pure healing. If you're looking for an outdoor spot with a good atmosphere in Magok, give Neoul Magok a visit :)
