Why we picked a ring workshop for a weekday lunch date in Seongsu

My partner Ttubi and I went on a weekday lunch date to Seongsu after a while. This time, instead of just going to a café or shopping, I wanted to do something a little special, so I looked up ring workshops in Seongsu and ended up visiting Robenta Seongsu.

We picked a design together from several options, then actually ground and polished the rings ourselves. It was more fun than I expected, and seeing the finished rings, it felt like the whole day was captured in them.

At first we mistook the entrance, but if you go around the side and up to the 3rd floor, you'll find the entrance to Robenta Seongsu.

Unlike the usual bustling vibe of Seongsu, stepping inside felt calm and clean.

Inside the workshop and the workspace

Inside, various ring and jewelry samples were neatly arranged, and there was a separate space set up for the hands-on experience.

The space was plenty comfortable for two people to sit and work together, so it was great for making rings slowly on a date.

Choosing a design — couple rings in the Ether men's design

The first step in ring making is, of course, choosing a design. We compared several samples, tried them on, and picked the style we wanted.

We both chose the Ether men's design.

Couple rings don't have to be the exact same design, but this time we wanted to match, so we aligned our tastes together.

Robenta says its designs are made and inspected directly by a jewelry designer with 30 years of experience, and indeed there was quite a range, from simple designs to more three-dimensional, unique ones.

Since the design is really the heart of a ring workshop, I liked that we could look at and decide among many samples ourselves, rather than choosing from just a few cheap options.

Making the ring by hand — how long does the work take

After deciding on the design and size, we got started on actually making the rings. Our hands-on work took about an hour.

Grinding and shaping a ring by hand felt unfamiliar at first, but the staff explained each step and we just followed along.

We shaped the sides of the ring first, then the top and bottom in order, and used sandpaper to smooth the surface.

After that, we used carving tools to clean up any uneven spots, and finally did the polishing ourselves too.

Watching the ring go from a bit rough to gradually smoother as we worked got me quietly absorbed in it. It's definitely a different kind of fun from just buying a ring haha.

Silver925 material and the 1.5-hour expert finishing wait

The rings we made used inspected silver925, and once the experience was over, we didn't just take them home right away — a professional did the finishing work. After we finished our part, professional finishing took about an hour and a half, and they called us when the rings were ready.

While waiting for the rings, we went shopping and checked out pop-ups around Seongsu, then went back to pick them up once we got the call. This part was honestly my favorite ^^!

We handled the hands-on process ourselves, but the final finish and quality get one more check from a professional, so there's less pressure about the outcome. Robenta uses moissanite, a diamond alternative, instead of cubic zirconia, and pays attention to polish and finishing with professional equipment, apparently!

The finished rings and packaging

Seeing the finished rings, the design we originally chose was cleanly preserved and the polish looked great, giving it a fairly luxurious feel. Maybe because we made it ourselves, we felt more attached to it than a ring we would've just bought.

It felt like receiving a gift right up to the moment we got the ring, and that made me really happy ♡ The staff kindly guided us through the whole experience, which I appreciated.

Even though it's a hands-on experience, we weren't just left to figure it out — they explained what to do and showed us how to follow along, so even as first-timers it wasn't difficult.

I also liked that the pricing was transparent, covering tax and stones, rather than just looking at a bare ring price.

If the only goal is making a ring cheaply, there are other options out there.

But if it's a couple ring or friendship ring you're only going to make once, and you want to properly care about design, material, and finishing, these are the things worth considering when choosing a ring workshop in Seoul.

Choosing the design yourself, shaping the ring yourself, and finishing it off with an expert's touch — that was our experience at Robenta Seongsu!

Making it together happily with my partner left us with a meaningful memory, and I'm satisfied with that.

Every time I look at the finished ring, I think I'll remember this time we spent in Seongsu.
