Dogok-dong walnut pie shop, back again for Premium MIX1: Hodu Kkakki
In short
Hodu Kkakki Brothers (호두까기형제) is a takeout-only pie shop specializing in walnut pie, near Exits 3–4 of Yangjae Station in Dogok-dong, Gangnam, Seoul. The writer returned to Hodu Kkakki Brothers to buy the Premium Nut Pie MIX1 (₩34,900) as a gift for a younger sibling, shared it with family, and found the pies generously loaded with walnuts and naturally sweet. For a less sweet gift pie made without refined sugar, Hodu Kkakki Brothers is worth recommending.

It had been a while since I'd seen my younger sibling, so I went to Hodu Kkakki Brothers (호두까끼형제) in Dogok-dong to pick up their favorite walnut pie. My sibling loves baked goods and pies, so I deliberately went for a healthy dessert gift. Here's my honest review of taking Hodu Kkakki Brothers walnut pie home. I like desserts that taste good and use good ingredients, and this was exactly what I wanted, so I enjoyed it so much 〰️

Where is Hodu Kkakki Brothers, and is there parking?
Hodu Kkakki Brothers is a takeout-only walnut pie shop near Exits 3-4 of Yangjae Station. It's right by the station, so it's super easy to get to! There's no parking lot of its own, but you can sometimes stop for about 5 minutes at the alley junction in front of the shop for pickup, and the car park of the nearby SK Herb Remobuilding is also available, so driving there works fine too.

Hodu Kkakki Brothers has been featured on YouTube and on SBS's "Live Today" (생방송 투데이) and more, a real Yangjae Station favorite! They sell pies only, and I think popular places are popular for a reason. I came once, fell for it, and came back, so that says it all.

Hodu Kkakki Brothers opening hours and break time
Hours are 11:00-21:00 on weekdays, 11:00-20:00 on Saturday and 11:00-19:00 on Sunday, with a weekday break from 14:30 to 15:30. It's a takeout shop, but I'd still recommend avoiding that break on weekdays.
- Weekdays 11:00 - 21:00
- Weekday break 14:30 - 15:30
- Saturday 11:00 - 20:00
- Sunday 11:00 - 19:00

What pies does Hodu Kkakki Brothers sell?
Hodu Kkakki Brothers is a takeout shop with walnut pie as the main item, plus macadamia pie, pecan pie and other kinds! There's no space to eat inside; it became a hit purely on takeout 👀

I used to judge desserts on taste alone, but maybe because I'm getting older (?), I now look for desserts made with good ingredients, not just tasty ones. Hodu Kkakki Brothers, a proper Dogok-dong dessert spot, sells pies that fit exactly what I'm after, so I really like it :)

What's in the Premium Nut Pie MIX1 (₩34,900)?
This time I ordered the Premium Nut Pie MIX1 for ₩34,900! Once you see what's in it, the price makes sense. I could have it packed as a mix of the four pies below. It would make a great gift too :)
- Signature Walnut Pie
- Original Pecan Pie
- Hazelnut Cacao Pie
- Macadamia Cheese Pie

Hodu Kkakki Brothers is tasty, healthy dessert and the hygiene is spotless too ✨ You can buy with confidence. Getting taste, health and cleanliness all in one place is what I really liked.

Is Hodu Kkakki Brothers a good takeout gift near Yangjae Station?
They pack the pies neatly in a dedicated box, so it feels perfectly fine as a gift! I hear many people buy them as gifts or thank-you presents, so if you want dessert to take away or give near Yangjae Station, it's a great place to come.
Lots of famous restaurants are one-and-done, but Hodu Kkakki Brothers is a place I keep thinking about! So I went again. Whenever I'm nearby, I end up coming back.

Besides the pie mix I ordered, you can buy single pieces, and there's a coffee menu too, so keep that in mind when you visit 👀
Hodu Kkakki Brothers pie enjoyed with the family!

Box plus plastic wrap, so neat, right? 👀 The illustrations are so cute that I plan to buy it again as a gift for a friend. They say good-looking food tastes good too, and the tidy packaging made me so happy~

What goes into Hodu Kkakki Brothers walnut pie?
Hodu Kkakki Brothers walnut pie is made without refined sugar! That surprised me most. Desserts are usually drowning in sugar, but they say they use honey, oligosaccharide syrup, maple syrup and so on instead. Maybe that's why the sweetness is so soft and natural!

This is how Hodu Kkakki Brothers describes its ingredients. It's not just leaving out bad ingredients; it uses only good ones, so I eat it with trust! They clearly take care even over a single dessert.
- Organic wheat flour and rice flour
- 100% milk butter from pristine New Zealand
- Domestic wildflower acacia honey, a third-generation product

I recommend the mix, where you get the Signature Walnut Pie, Hazelnut Cacao Pie, Original Pecan Pie and Macadamia Cheese Pie all at once :) Honestly, every single one is delicious.

Hodu Kkakki Brothers says its pies boldly leave out not only refined sugar but also palm oil, preservatives, margarine, shortening, glazing agents, chemical additives and artificial sweeteners. That's a truly healthy dessert, wouldn't you agree?

How long walnut pie keeps and how to thaw it
Put the pies in a zipper bag: they keep 7 days in the fridge or 30 days in the freezer, and if frozen, they taste best after thawing at room temperature for about 10 minutes. But I never had any reason to freeze them. At our house they were gone in two days ✨

How did the four nut pie flavors taste?
Can you believe how loaded these pies look? True to the name, there are so many walnuts, and the other nuts are piled on generously too, which I loved. At many places walnut pie is mostly pie crust, but at Hodu Kkakki Brothers the amount of walnuts is amazing.

It was a dessert I liked all the more for not being too sweet! Well, to be exact, it's not unsweet, it's moderately sweet. Not a sugar bomb but a sweetness that comes up naturally, if that makes sense? That's why I liked it even more.

The Original Pecan Pie was so good, maybe because pecans are a premium nut, and with coffee it was a perfect match. And the Hazelnut Cacao Pie, what can I say, such a delicious chocolate pie, I was truly moved.

Personally, the biggest surprise was probably the Macadamia Cheese Pie. The cheese aroma isn't overpowering, just subtly there, and it went well with the nutty richness of the macadamia.

All four flavors have their own charm and are different, so trying them one by one was really fun! Maybe because it's a healthy dessert unlike ordinary ones, I also felt less weighed down afterward.

Is Hodu Kkakki Brothers worth a return visit?
Hodu Kkakki Brothers is really not famous for nothing. It feels like every ingredient is carefully chosen. I get why it's famous in Yangjae. There's a reason I came back too! haha The pies were so delicious that I was truly moved.

If you're looking for takeout dessert in Dogok-dong, I really recommend Hodu Kkakki Brothers walnut pie! It uses no refined sugar and only good ingredients, so it's great as a gift and a joy to eat with family. I remembered it from before and went back, and once again I enjoyed it a lot, totally satisfied. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a dessert that isn't too sweet and is made with healthy ingredients :)
