I had a concert recently, you know? And every time there's a concert, a performer's big worry is makeup... I always agonize over where to go, and this time I decided on a Hongdae makeup shop, Moi Hair Makeup.

How to get there from Hongik Univ. Station

Moi Hair Makeup is directly connected to Exit 3 of Hongik Univ. Station, so it's really close, and I loved that. It's on the B1 floor of the Hongik Ingan officetel, so you don't need to go up to street level. Just walk right in.

Which stylist did my hair and makeup?

The artist I booked and visited was the deputy director (Buwonjang) of Moi Hair Makeup, who I hear has a lot of experience with celebrity makeup too. Many people come for daily makeup, and she's also well known for performance and wedding makeup.

Is there somewhere for friends to wait?

Moi Hair Makeup has a comfortable waiting area, so if your boyfriend has to wait, he can wait here comfortably!

The shop itself is so classy and clean that it's easy to come to, and a nice place for the person waiting too!

How does concert performance makeup work?

The shop had several rooms. They also do weddings, so on busy days I guess they work across multiple rooms.

When I arrived at my appointment time, they started with the hair.

Short hair on a rainy day: will it hold up?

It's best to bring a photo of the style you want. I'd only recently cut my hair into a bob, so I worried a lot about what to do.

I liked that she recommended all sorts of things. An experienced person really is the best, I thought... It rained a lot that day and I was afraid my hair would get messy and go flat, but she added volume so smartly and applied lots of product, so I took my photos confidently with hair that could handle the rain.

Performance makeup that highlights the eyes

Last came the makeup after the hair, and wow... her know-how is incredible. I've had wedding makeup and performance makeup more than most people, so I can tell right away whether someone is good, and she brought out the points I mentioned so well.

The products she used were all good ones, too. I wanted my eyes emphasized, and she did eye makeup with a method I'd never seen, so my eyes looked about 1.5 times bigger than usual and my features changed so prettily.

How long do hair and makeup take?

Hair and makeup at Moi Hair Makeup took almost 2 hours, but it wrapped up faster than I expected, so I happily took lots of selfies before leaving. I asked for bright and clean, and she did exactly what I wanted, which felt great.

Hair volume is life, so she told me to keep pins in my hair like that and take them out when the concert starts, haha.

Does morning makeup last until an evening concert?

Thanks to Moi Hair Makeup, I got my makeup done in the morning, took photos during the afternoon rehearsal and performed in the evening, and I was really happy with both the photos and the show. I sweated a lot during the performance in particular... but even with the sweat, my makeup was totally fine!!!

And it was a very rainy day and my hair is semi-curly, so I'd been really worried... but it held up fine and I got through all my photos.
