When I travel, I love trying the local handmade burger spot. Even though it's the same kind of food, every place does it differently, so you get to enjoy all sorts of styles. I even hunt down burger joints when I travel abroad. I actually found my all-time favorite burger overseas (in Austria..!!), but in Korea I always felt like something was missing by about 1%.

But at Burger Bar, a Gangneung favorite for handmade burgers, I 🎉 finally found my all-time favorite burger 🎉 My husband and I ate together and both ended up with that involuntary eyebrow furrow + a thumbs up 👍 So let me leave a detailed review 🐝

This is Burger Bar 🍔 a Gangneung handmade burger spot right in front of Sageunjin Beach 🍔 Gangneung actually has quite a few handmade burger places, and when I read other reviews, Burger Bar kept coming up as a recommendation. So I went with high expectations.

There's a record from the Korea Burger Championship 2026 👑 It was also selected as an outstanding business in the Gangneung burger category, and pets are even allowed inside. Both the outside and inside have great atmosphere ✨️

You can also eat on the terrace

Just cross the street and you're at Sageunjin Beach, with nothing blocking the view, so you can eat your burger while looking straight out at the sea. Doesn't that sound romantic?

There are separate tables set up for this. Once the weather warms up, I think a handmade burger eaten right here would taste even better...🫶

The vibe inside Burger Bar

This is the hip-feeling interior of Burger Bar. Even though we went after 1pm on a weekday, there were quite a few customers, and more kept coming in while we ate. It felt like the kind of place that gets even busier on weekends!!

You can see the sea from inside too, and thanks to the open kitchen layout, you can watch the cooking happen. The patties are grilled fresh to order, and the fries are fried fresh as well. Nice, nice 👏👏

Burger Bar menu and prices in Gangneung

Here's Burger Bar's menu and prices. The base is a smash burger, but beyond the basics there are lots of different burger types. What especially caught my eye were the signature burgers you can get here ✅️ Lobster Burger ✅️ Daegwallyeong Songgo Mushroom Burger ✅️ Jumunjin Squid Burger — I really agonized over which one to pick among these three. There were also plenty of other burgers that sounded delicious just from the name.

For fries, there's basic, cheese, and truffle, plus onion rings, Chodang corn chips, buffalo wings, and more. After a lot of deliberation, I ended up ordering the most fundamental option — the basic fries. Even if you're not up for a burger, you can also order an Americano or one of the signature drinks.

Self-bar and service

A thoughtful touch 🫧 for really digging into your food: they have hair ties, plus disposable gloves too.

There's ice too, so you can enjoy a nice cool drink~~

There's also a receipt lottery event.

They also have warm fish chips. These are so good to snack on while you wait. Dipping them in ketchup is delicious too 😘

The Daegwallyeong Songgo Mushroom Burger, Triple Cheese Burger, and fries

Here are the Daegwallyeong Songgo Mushroom Burger and the Triple Cheese Burger. The visuals alone were insane ✨️ The buns were nicely toasted, and everything inside looked obviously fresh and thick.

Songgo mushroom is a type of mushroom that has the aroma of pine mushroom plus the chewiness of shiitake. Apparently songgo mushrooms come from the Daegwallyeong area. I was curious since it was my first time trying it, and honestly... I found myself wondering why I hadn't discovered this mushroom sooner — it was so flavorful and soft. The moment I bit into the burger, the mushroom aroma rose up thick and strong. Both burgers were delicious, but for me this Songgo Mushroom Burger was the real winner.

Here's the Triple burger. It has a whopping three patties, so it's genuinely thick. With cheese on top of that, it just melted in my mouth!

Both burgers were packed full inside. The buns were toasted well too, thin and crisp on the outside, and full of that nutty, toasty flavor.

The fries were also fried really well, crisp and crunchy on the outside. It really made me think that handmade burger places do fries differently. The portion was pretty generous too — plenty for two people to share.

Would I go back?

If I come back to Gangneung again anytime soon, it'll be because of Burger Bar's all-time favorite burger. I ate so well, and I was genuinely stuffed. Both of us ended up holding our stomachs by the end!!!! If you want to try something exciting in Gangneung, I recommend the handmade burgers at Burger Bar!
