Greenhouse seating with parents at Coffee Dripper in Gangneung

In short

Coffee Dripper is a roastery café in Gangneung's Chodang-dong, right in front of Café Toenmaru, which expanded and relocated in May this year. Visiting with parents, we ordered hot Americanos, homemade patbingsu (shaved ice with red beans), and salted vanilla financiers, and loved the light-filled greenhouse seating and open floor-to-ceiling windows. With its own private parking lot, it's an easy stop even in tourist-crowded Chodang-dong.

Coffee Dripper is a Chodang-dong café that newly expanded and relocated this past May. I spent a relaxing time there in a clean, stylish space, sipping coffee made from beans they roast themselves. Even in tourist-crowded Chodang-dong, parking was easy, making it a great spot to visit with my parents.

Coffee Dripper's location, a 10-minute walk from Gangmun Beach

Coffee Dripper in Chodang-dong sits inside the Chodang Sundubu (tofu) Village, right in front of Café Toenmaru. It's a 10-minute walk from Gangmun Beach, 7 minutes by car from Gangneung Station, and 2 minutes from Gyeongpo Lake Plaza — nice accessibility as part of a Chodang-dong café-and-food course.

There's terrace seating too, and the exterior was very clean and tidy.

Are those luxury stone bags?? They had Gucci, Hermès, and Dior ones haha. Lots of people were taking photos holding them.

Chodang-dong's Coffee Dripper had a wide range of drinks including their signature latte, ice cream, drip coffee, Americano, and lattes, plus bakery items like vanilla cruffin, black sesame cruffin, chocolate cruffin, Valrhona chocolate financier, salted vanilla financier, and yuzu financier.

At this Gangneung café known for drip coffee, they also sell drip bags and coffee tea bags made with their own roasted beans. The coffee tasted great, so if you love coffee, it'd make a nice gift or something to take home.

Interior atmosphere — the greenhouse space is a lighting jackpot

Interior seating with an open feel from floor-to-ceiling windows

The walls and tables are wood-toned, blending with a variety of stylish plants for a lively feel.

The floor-to-ceiling windows give a sense of openness, and the natural light keeps things bright — also great for group visits.

The greenhouse space is a lighting jackpot ˃ ˂ ՞ — such a charming spot.

Coffee Dripper was clean throughout and the staff were kind, which made me want to come back — a Gangneung café I'd revisit.

Coffee Dripper's roasting room

Coffee Dripper even has its own roasting room. Since 2012 it's been a café in Gyodong specializing in hand-drip coffee made from self-roasted beans, so you can taste the deep flavor unique to Dripper. That's why I recommend Coffee Dripper as a Gangneung café. (⸝⸝◜o◝⸝⸝)

What the three of us ordered: Americanos, homemade patbingsu, and salted vanilla financiers

  • Americano (HOT) x2
  • Homemade patbingsu
  • Salted vanilla financier x2

The three of us ordered like this. Dripper's Americano is smooth and nutty ☕ — clean enough to pair well with all kinds of desserts, and easy to enjoy no matter your taste.

Homemade patbingsu

Finely shaved milk ice topped with a generous heap of homemade red beans, plus chewy rice cake on top — it looked great too.

I liked that the homemade red beans weren't too sweet, and after a few spoonfuls I found bean flour underneath adding a nutty note. Mixed all together, the pleasant sweetness and the cool taste of the patbingsu were satisfying, and it paired perfectly with the Americano.

Salted vanilla financier

Crisp on the outside, properly soft inside. The subtle vanilla scent topped with a hint of salty seasoning made for a charming sweet-and-salty combo. It paired well with the Americano too — I'd recommend it for anyone who finds overly sweet desserts too much.
