If you're looking for a large café near Gangnam Station or Sinnonhyeon Station where you can relax over coffee and dessert, I recommend Upper and Under.
This time I visited Upper and Under, a café near Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station with a spacious layout and a wide range of bakery items. It's great for just grabbing a coffee, but also a really nice space to pick out a delicious dessert and spend some leisurely time🤍
Where is Upper and Under, and what are its hours?
Upper and Under is located at 28 Gangnam-daero 102-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, near the Gangnam café street between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station. It's open daily from 11:00 to 22:00, and group visits are possible.
There are so many cafés in Gangnam, but if you visit on a weekend or in the afternoon, a lot of them run short on seats. What I liked about Upper and Under is that as a large Gangnam bakery café with space spread across the 1st through 3rd floors, you can usually find a seat comfortably.

It's located near Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station, so accessibility is really good, and being near the Gangnam café street makes it convenient for grabbing coffee after a meal or meeting friends. If you're looking for a big café in Gangnam in particular, this is one I'd really recommend.
Three floors of seating, with orders taken on the 2nd floor
You order at Upper and Under on the 2nd floor. There's a counter there where you can order bakery items, cakes, and coffee, and the restroom is also on the 2nd floor.
If you're looking for a café between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station, this is definitely a good one to work into your route. There are various restaurants and shops nearby, so it also works well as a combined meal-and-café course.

As you can see in the photos, I think the biggest strength of Upper and Under is definitely its spacious layout. Each floor from 1 to 3 has different types of seating, so you can choose according to your group size or the mood you want. This is the 3rd floor, and there's really a wide variety of seats👍

There were seats good for sitting quietly alone with coffee, all the way to tables good for sitting with friends. Since the space is so large, it also seemed good for staying a while to talk or use a laptop.
This is the 1st floor, and it has a much cozier feel👍 To order from the 1st floor you need to go up the stairs to the 2nd floor. The lighting is a bit dimmer here, but a space like this feels even more atmospheric at night🐥
There were so many types of seats that I saw plenty of people drinking coffee alone as well as groups. It's also great as a Gangnam date café.

What's in the Upper and Under bakery and dessert display?
You can check out the bakery items and coffee menu on the 2nd floor of Upper and Under, where the display was full of everything from pastries to cakes.

The bakery selection was genuinely rich. Beyond the usual pastries, there was a wide variety of cakes and distinctive dessert items, so it was fun just picking one🤍 I even spotted butter rice cake, which has been trending on social media, along with all sorts of breads and desserts on display — it seemed like you could pick something new every time you visit.

The egg tarts also looked really big and delicious. And the cakes looked just as well-made, generous in both size and toppings.

Next to the pastry section, there was a small fridge displaying different types of Basque cheesecake, while tiramisu, lemon cake, and various fruit cakes were displayed separately beside the register.

This was a great Gangnam dessert café for anyone who loves bread, as well as anyone who wants to enjoy sweet desserts with coffee. The place is large and the menu selection wide, making it a good spot to visit with friends or a partner👍
How does the yellow cheese Basque cheesecake taste?
The dessert I picked at Upper and Under that day was the yellow cheese Basque cheesecake. The distinctive salty, savory flavor of yellow cheese paired well with the soft texture of the cheesecake🤍

I could feel the rich, dense texture typical of Basque cheesecake, and with the first bite the deep flavor of the cheese spread gently. Combined with the saltiness of the yellow cheese, it had a slightly bolder, more distinctive taste than a regular cheesecake.

It wasn't a dessert that was just strongly sweet — the savoriness and salty yellow cheese flavor came through together, which paired nicely with coffee👍

The cake's flavor came through even more clearly when eaten with the slightly bitter americano. It really went well with the americano🤍

If you're a fan of yellow cheese desserts, this is a menu item you'll enjoy.
The drinks: matcha oat iced latte and iced americano
The drinks I ordered at Upper and Under that day were an iced americano and a matcha oat latte.

Matcha oat iced latte
This drink had matcha's characteristic gentle bitterness combined with the smooth, savory taste of oat milk. Compared to regular milk, the oat milk's clean, savory quality paired well with the matcha. Rather than the matcha flavor overpowering everything, it finished smoothly, making it easy to enjoy alongside dessert. Paired with the yellow cheese Basque cheesecake, the savory notes carried through nicely — a solid combination! The more you stir, the more strongly you notice the pairing of matcha and oat.
Iced americano
This had a clean, refreshing taste that felt like it reset your palate after the richness of the dessert. For a dessert with deep flavor like a cake, a clean americano really works well. Depending on your taste, you could choose between the smooth matcha oat latte and the clean americano👍
