Paju Unjeong BBQ: pork jowl vs belly vs marinated pork at Tannae

Tannae Paju Main Branch is an aged-pork grill house in Garam-maeul, Unjeong, Paju. The three best-sellers — 300g marinated jumbo pork at 17,900 won, select pork belly at 16,500 won and pork jowl at 15,500 won — were ordered together and compared side by side, with a free kimchi stew included. The verdict: pork jowl is the personal favourite, while pork belly is the safest first order at Tannae.

Paju Chinese restaurant, large stone-plate jjamppong for three

Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch is a stone-plate jjamppong (spicy noodle soup) and jjajang (black bean noodle) restaurant behind Simhaksan mountain in Paju, Gyeonggi. Three adults, including the writer's mother, ordered the large nurungji (scorched rice) stone-plate jjamppong and the donchi-tang set of pork cutlet and chicken, and the heat of the stone plate cooked the broth down until it tasted close to stir-fried jjamppong, with the scorched rice at the bottom scraped clean. The flavor is spicy, sweet and salty, so it can feel strong if you prefer mild food, but the nurungji stone-plate jjamppong at Dolpanseok is worth one order if you visit Simhaksan.
