Where is Cube Escape Daejeon Dunsan?

Cube Escape Daejeon Dunsan (큐브이스케이프 대전둔산점) is an escape room café on the 5th floor of a building in Dunsan-dong, Daejeon. We went as a family for this trip. The shop is on the 5th floor, and there's an elevator, so it's easy to get up and down. There's also underground parking under the building, which is an even bigger plus!!

True to the escape room vibe, the interior is done up in a distinctive style — kind of like a corridor inside a castle? It's dim rather than bright, so it feels a bit eerie, and the background music was set to a horror mood too, which really brought the atmosphere alive.

How hard is the 'Obsession' theme, and how long do you get?

Cube Escape Daejeon Dunsan has 6 themes ranging from level 3 to 5, and since my sibling said they were good at this stuff, we tried the level 4 theme 'Obsession'! Time limit is 1 hour. When I looked up 'Obsession' online, I thought it would just be mystery-solving, but as we played it gradually turned into horror... By the end we could barely do anything, we got scared, and our pace slowed way down.

Lock types and the 3-hint rule at Cube Escape

There are 3 types of locks: the common number-dial lock, a lock combining 5–6 digit numbers and letters, and a directional lock you move up/down/left/right in order. There's an intercom right next to the entrance door, so if you get stuck, you can request up to 3 hints. Just be careful — if you open the door and step out midway, it counts as giving up.

Where do you leave your bags? A locker for each theme

There are lockers for each theme so everyone playing can store their belongings. There are also extra storage lockers for those with a lot of stuff. Since the place is near Sungsimdang (the famous bakery), I even saw people storing bread they'd brought along, haha.

Hall of fame and the Polaroid reward

My photo came out blurry, sorry! I heard the hall of fame is for people who cleared it using only 1 hint. I wanted to try other themes too, but I don't like scary stuff, so I'll save that for next time... haha

If you escape after using 2 hints or fewer, you get to take home a polaroid photo! So many people have left their record here.

Payment methods and opening hours

Only card or cash is accepted, and paying cash gets you a ₩1,000 discount per person. Some places charge ₩30,000, but the Daejeon branch seems cheaper than that.

Make sure to check the operating hours too, so your plans don't get thrown off.

What's in the waiting area: prop displays and puzzles

They've arranged props used in the escape rooms as interior decoration. There's a lot of variety, but you can't touch them with your hands, so you have to enjoy them with your eyes only, ㅠㅠ A bit of a shame, but there's more variety than you'd expect, so it's fun to look around once.

What the level 4 horror theme was actually like

Because of how escape rooms work, I couldn't take detailed photos, so I have to explain most of it in words. Still, the staff were kind and the place itself felt clean, which I liked. I ran into an obstacle I didn't expect and unfortunately failed to escape... ㅠㅠ I hope you all succeed, get your polaroid photo, and make it onto the hall of fame!

'Obsession' is a theme with a strong thriller feel, so the mood changes completely the moment you step into the space. It was fun piecing together the story as we found clues one by one, and unexpected devices kept popping up, keeping us tense throughout. The puzzles weren't too easy either, so we kept discussing ideas with each other, and I think we got so absorbed we lost track of time.

Above all, the theme's atmosphere and story fit together so well that I think both first-timers and experienced escape room fans would enjoy it. If you're looking for something a bit different from the usual dates or activities in Daejeon, I'd recommend Cube Escape's 'Obsession'!
