Dongtan Korean restaurant with Pororo spoons and restrooms: Ossamgak

A while back I visited Ossamgak, a lunch spot in Mokdong, Dongtan known for being tidy and well put together, with my family!

Even from the outside, the modern, bright interior caught my eye, so I already felt good before I even walked in. The inside was clean and neatly managed too, which left quite an impression on me! Let me share my honest review from my visit. 😊

Ossamgak hours and parking

Ossamgak is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 to 21:30, and closed on Sundays. Break time is 15:00-17:00, and last order is at 21:00.

What Ossamgak offers families with a toddler

Ossamgak has a baby chair, a Pororo baby spoon set, and disposable bibs all ready to go. When eating out with a young child, taste matters, of course, but you also end up checking out the restaurant's environment and facilities!

You can order easily through the kiosk at each table, and while there's no self-serve bar, they had everything ready — a baby chair, of course, and even the Pororo baby spoon set that my child loved the moment she saw it. Really grateful for that 👍

From the disposable bibs by the counter to the cute ceramic pieces and mini potted plants on the walls, the attention to detail really stood out. And the flow was well thought out too — you could even grab a cup of dessert coffee on your way out after the meal ☕

Best of all, having a clean, gender-separated restroom right inside the restaurant, so you never have to step outside the building, was genuinely reassuring and convenient 🚽

Banchan (side dishes) served with the ossam set

We ordered Ossamgak's signature menu, the 'ossam set'!

Soon a table full of neat banchan (side dishes) arrived — sweet and tangy cabbage salad, seasoned green laver, crunchy bean sprouts, and glossy japchae (glass noodle stir-fry)! The portions were so generous that we didn't even need a refill.

The seasoned bean sprouts in particular were the perfect partner for mixing with the squid stir-fry later, and the japchae had a spicy kick that adults loved 🌶️ (do be careful when giving it to kids!)

And when coming with a child, there's a genuinely thoughtful touch that's uniquely Ossamgak's — the kiosk has a 'garlic sauce on the side' option, so I was so glad I could enjoy the bossam (boiled pork wrap) together with my child!

Smoky squid stir-fry and garlic-scented bossam

At last! The main dishes that complete a hearty, satisfying Dongtan Mokdong lunch appeared one after another. Can you see how generously loaded the table was? 🤤

First, the doenjang stew that comes as a default side had a homemade, savory flavor without being too strong — excellent. It was packed with soft tofu inside the earthenware pot, more than enough to settle the stomach!

And then the first of the two main dishes of the ossam set — squid stir-fry!

The moment I saw it, the plump squid caught my eye right away, and I thought the combination with the sweet cabbage would be just right 🥬

After admiring the delicious-looking dish, I scooped up a big spoonful of the sweet, spicy squid stir-fry with its wafting smoky aroma, put it on rice, and mixed it all together.

The plump, chewy texture of the squid and the sweet-spicy special sauce blended with the savory egg yolk and dried seaweed flakes, mellowing the spiciness just right — an explosion of savory flavor filled my mouth!

Second main: bossam with garlic sauce on the side

The second main dish — bossam!

The plainly boiled, well-cooked bossam paired perfectly with the spicy-tangy bossam kimchi and dried radish strips — the combination with the seasonings was truly complete.

Put a piece of meat on fresh lettuce, add a little of the pungent garlic sauce served on the side, and wrap it up into one big bite — you all know how good that tastes 😋
