Dongtan Mokdong Korean restaurant with parking for 4 cars: Ossamgak

In short

Ossamgak is a Korean restaurant serving squid stir-fry and bossam (boiled pork with wraps) in the Mokdong commercial area of Dongtan, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. The writer came for a weekday lunch with her freelance dad, who had been eating only home-cooked meals, and ordered the Ossam set at the basic (mild) spice level, mixing the rice with a fried egg and gim (dried seaweed) and finishing the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and side dishes. Ossamgak has 4 parking spots out front plus a public lot a 1-minute walk away that is free for 90 minutes, and dad asked to come back again.

My dad's been working freelance lately, so he's been eating at home a lot more. Both of us were getting a little bored of home meals, so we decided to have a good lunch in Dongtan for once. Actually... it's not really "for once" since we've been eating out a lot lately hahahaha.

Our family really loves Korean food, so while looking for lunch spots in Dongtan, Ossamgak caught my eye!! A place where I could get both squid stir-fry and bossam (boiled pork wrap), which I love, together? The moment I saw the menu I was like okay let's go!!!

Oh, this is a place I'd come back to even paying with my own money, and one that deserves to blow up!!!

Where Ossamgak is and where to park

Ossamgak is located in the Mokdong commercial area near Sindong's new residential culture town. There's parking for about 4 cars right in front of the restaurant.

Inside Ossamgak

The inside of Ossamgak really feels clean, and it's spacious with a full window view, so it's great for dining with a group.

Squid stir-fry and bossam in one: the Ossam set

There were so many things I wanted to eat on the menu, but since it was my first visit, I decided to start with the signature dish first! The menu I chose was the Ossam set meal!

I loved that I could try squid stir-fry and bossam at the same time. The squid stir-fry lets you choose your spice level, so I ordered it mild. I was torn, but the mild level wasn't too spicy and was just right to eat with rice — it really suited my taste, so if you're not great with spicy food, keep that in mind.

Mixing the rice with fried egg and gim

The squid stir-fry!!! Oh my goshㅠㅜ the radish and squid pieces were really plump. The first bite had a springy texture and felt so fresh.

On top of that there was a smoky char flavor, so eating it with rice kept me reaching for more. And the part I personally loved most about Ossamgak! A fried egg and gim came out alongside so you could eat them with the rice.

I put the squid stir-fry on rice, added the fried egg and gim, and mixed it all up — that carb-protein-fat combo just melts a dieter's heart hahaha.

Add the savory egg and gim to the spicy squid stir-fry and a whole bowl of rice disappears in no time. If you're looking for a filling lunch in Dongtan Mokdong, I think this kind of menu combo would be pretty satisfying.

The doenjang jjigae that comes with the set

On top of that, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) comes included as standard, and it had plenty of tofu and a clean broth — better than I expected.

It didn't feel like an afterthought side dish — it felt properly simmered, so it went really well with the squid stir-fry.

Bossam with handmade garlic sauce, light and all the better for it

Ossamgak's bossam was tasty with kimchi and also paired well with pickled radish strips. But what I liked most of all was the handmade garlic sauce!!!!

Bossam served with handmade garlic sauce

Usually garlic sauce for bossam is heavily sweet, which means I don't eat a lot of it, but Ossamgak's garlic sauce wasn't overly sweet and was light!! It didn't overpower the taste of the bossam, and the subtle garlic flavor went really well with it. Plus eating it with the kimchi and radish strips that came alongside — pure bliss!!!

Side dishes as generous as a home-style rice house

And what satisfied me even more than expected was the banchan (side dishes). Japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), salad, seasoned bean sprouts, and various namul (seasoned vegetables) all came out, so it felt like being at a proper Dongtan home-style rice table restaurant.

Turns out the banchan is made fresh by hand every day. It wasn't just a lot of variety for the sake of it — each one actually tasted good, so I kept going back for more, haha. A place with this generous a spread of side dishes deserves to blow up honestly... it's such a rare find ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

The place dad wanted to come back to

After tasting it, my dad said it was delicious and suggested we come back next time. I also wanted to visit again with the whole family next time. There's also a CGV nearby, so it seems like a good stop before or after a movie whenever you're looking for a Dongtan Mokdong lunch or dinner spot.

Plump squid stir-fry with that smoky char, light handmade garlic sauce bossam, and generous banchan — all enjoyed at once at Ossamgak. If you're looking for a solid Korean lunch in Dongtan Mokdong, Ossamgak seems worth a visit.
