Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch is just a 3-minute walk from Exit 5 of Yeonsinnae Station, haha. Walk straight a little after coming out of the exit and you'll find it quickly, so access is really good, I thought!

The exterior was clean and neatly kept, and the mood was perfect for chatting away with my boyfriend over a meal, haha.

At Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch, the set for two is ₩34,000 with 2 tenderloin katsu and 1 udon, or ₩32,000 if you choose regular tonkatsu. When we looked at the menu after walking in, my boyfriend and I both went, huh?? These days a proper plate of tonkatsu easily starts at the high ₩10,000s, and add a noodle dish and you're at around ₩40,000–50,000, but Katsu Monster's set was really solid and reasonable!

We ordered the set for two, which bundles two katsu with a hot noodle dish! 2 tenderloin katsu (₩1,000 extra each) + 1 udon came to ₩34,000!! If you choose regular tonkatsu, it's 2 tonkatsu and 1 udon for ₩32,000. Insane value...

Two plates of high-quality tenderloin katsu plus udon in a hot broth, a full course at the mid-₩10,000s per person (and you can swap in cold soba too!!). That's a real bargain, don't you think..? It's easy on the wallet for student couples and a hearty dinner after work for office workers too, a perfect price with a solid lineup.

How big is the tenderloin katsu portion?

The tenderloin katsu at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch comes as two big pieces of meat fried whole on one plate. Our order soon arrived neatly set out as a full tray, and the moment we saw the main tenderloin katsu, my boyfriend and I were both shocked..haha (and that's even without his plate!). Usually when you order tenderloin katsu, you only get a few round slices of meat and it often doesn't really fill you up, right?

But at Katsu Monster, two big pieces of meat are fried whole as tonkatsu and served generously! (Not one piece, two...!!!) The amount was seriously enormous, so I was already happy before eating, and my boyfriend, who doesn't usually say there's a lot of food, said wow, there's really a lot here, haha.

How were the texture and juiciness of the tenderloin katsu?

The coating on Katsu Monster's tenderloin katsu was crisp, and the tenderloin inside was tender, not tough. I picked up my chopsticks and took a bite, and wow... the texture is a work of art. The coating stays crunchy like a snack, while the tenderloin inside isn't tough at all, it's soft. With each bite the rich juices locked inside burst in your mouth, and the savory flavor and clean taste of the meat cling to your tongue, which makes eating it so much fun. Judging by the meat quality, you can really feel that they carefully pick only good ingredients.

What sauces come with the tonkatsu?

Katsu Monster has basic tonkatsu sauce, salt and wasabi, so you can enjoy your tonkatsu in different ways, which is another charm point. Start with the basic tonkatsu sauce, then salt to bring out the clean taste, and sharp wasabi to cut through the richness! You can mix and match to your taste, so right up to the last piece I never got tired and got a new flavor every time, hehe.

Personally, putting a little sharp wasabi on top and dipping it in salt was the combination that best brought out the meat's own juicy flavor, so it was my number one pick!

How was the udon that comes with the set?

The udon that came with the Katsu Monster set for two is loaded with fish cake (odeng), the noodles are springy, and the broth is deep and refreshing!!

Sipping the udon broth between bites of crispy tonkatsu left my mouth feeling clean, so the combination is just right, haha.
