Bag storage in the chairs at a Mokdong gopchang restaurant: Omokgyo

In short

Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is a garlic gopchang (grilled beef intestines) restaurant a 3-4 minute walk from Exit 1 of Omokgyo Station in Yangcheon, Seoul. The writer walked in at 6:30pm on a Friday without a Naver reservation and still got a table, ordering the 200g mixed gopchang for 27,900 won with bibim guksu (spicy cold noodles) for 7,000 won and a beer for 5,000 won. Bags go inside the chairs to keep the smell out, and sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew) comes free with the meal — an easy pick for gopchang in Mokdong.

I went to Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch, said to be famous for its garlic gopchang and scallion kimchi. It has over 6,400 Naver reviews..?!

Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is a well-known restaurant in Mokdong, Gangseo-gu. I visited right at Friday quitting time and found it's a favorite among Mokdong office workers. Let me share the reservation info, menu, prices, and an honest review.

Where is Omokgyo Gopchang, and is there a wait on Friday night?

The main branch is a 3-minute walk from Omokgyo Station Exit 1.

There's a round sign out front that just says 'gopchang' — it catches your eye right away, and the whole vibe feels perfect for stopping by after work.

I visited around 6:30pm on a Friday. I couldn't make a Naver reservation because I didn't know when my friend would get off work, so I was worried about waiting — but luckily there was a table free.

Since it's a garlic gopchang place, there's garlic hanging from the ceiling. The tables are connected, which makes for a great setup for family gatherings or group dinners.

You can open the chairs and store your bag inside, which also helps block the gopchang smell. There was a roulette event going on too, and they sweetly gave out vitamins.

The signature handmade garlic gopchang is sold in a limited amount of just 30 servings a day. It's 200g for 28,900 won. Since I wanted to try a variety, I ordered the 200g mixed gopchang for 27,900 won instead. The mixed platter includes the handmade garlic gopchang plus hwangso gopchang, makchang, daechang, cheonyeop (beef heart), and beehive tripe — perfect for first-time visitors.

There are also single grilled-item dishes, and ordering a 2-5 person set menu comes with a discount, making it even better value. Sounds perfect for a family gathering.

I thought bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles) would go well with gopchang, so I ordered that along with an after-work beer. I originally wanted the fried rice too, but I had other errands nearby, so I sadly saved that for next time.. Bibim guksu 7,000 won, beer 5,000 won.

How to eat the garlic gopchang and bibim guksu at Omokgyo Gopchang

A spread of the free sundubu jjigae and side dishes

They give you sundubu jjigae for free — the best..! There are lots of side dishes too, like scallion kimchi, onion, chives, and salad, so you can mix and match with the gopchang.

I read through the side dishes and had a beer, going over the best way to enjoy Omokgyo Gopchang — sundubu jjigae with a drink? I was already doing that haha.

Why is the quality of the side dishes so good. Soft tofu with a spicy, hearty stew — eating gopchang then the stew really cleanses your palate.

The stew seasoning is really tasty, and another thing I ate happily was this salad — it had something soft, like crab stick, in it, and it was genuinely delicious.

Finally, the mixed gopchang arrived! A fire show performance..!! That's part of the fun of eating out with a group.

They cut the daechang into easy-to-eat pieces, and put onion and scallion kimchi on top, saying it tastes better that way. They said they make the scallion kimchi fresh every Friday!

Onion and scallion kimchi placed on top of daechang

The daechang needs a bit more grilling, but since the gopchang comes pre-cooked, you just need to heat it a little more.

The cheonyeop (beef heart) had such a great chewy texture. Even for heart, the meat was substantial, so I could tell they use quality cuts. Cheonyeop dipped in sesame oil salt is so good!!

Omokgyo Gopchang's sauce went well with every cut. There's absolutely no gamey smell. The gopchang is savory and the yang (tripe) is chewy and delicious. Every single cut was good, so I ate in a hurry.

Bibim guksu served alongside the gopchang

The bibim guksu arrived at just the right moment, so I mixed it up. This really can't taste bad!!

Cross-section of the handmade garlic gopchang packed with whole garlic cloves

At first I thought it was just tossed with minced garlic, but apparently they make it with high-quality domestic gopchang, packing in whole garlic cloves one by one, by hand? The gopchang was packed full of garlic and fat inside, so every bite hit with an intense flavor. Put a piece of gopchang on top of the bibim guksu — you have to try this combination.

The busy dining hall at Omokgyo Gopchang on a Friday evening

It was crowded since it was a Friday evening, but honestly the lively after-work atmosphere made the meal even more enjoyable. If you're looking for a great gopchang spot in Mokdong, I recommend the Omokgyo Gopchang main branch!
