Tissue Appa and his coworker had just gotten back from a rough business trip, so I wanted to treat him and his friend to something good near their office in Suwon. While searching for dog-friendly restaurants near Mangpo Station, I found a Korean BBQ spot that allows dogs — Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch — and went with Tissue Appa's friend and his partner, four of us in total.

Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Mangpo Station in Yeongtong-dong, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon. It's open Monday to Saturday from 12:00 to 3:00 the next morning, and Sunday from 12:00 to 22:00, with parking for 5 cars in front of the store.

There were four of us, and reviews said even the set for one was quite generous, so

Table setting and side dishes at Olheun Gogi

Since we'd booked through Naver, our reserved table was already set up, with the basic side dishes prepared in advance. After we ordered,

more side dishes and steamed egg (gyeranjjim) came out quickly. Fitting for a Mangpo Station favorite, all the banchan (side dishes) were fresh, clean-tasting, and generously portioned, and staff brought refills without us even asking — that was such a nice touch.

This is the one thing that can't be skipped with BBQ — my beloved draft beer,,,,❤

The Olheun pork set, grilled for you by the staff

The Olheun pork set comes with pork belly, neck, and deoksal (upper loin cut) together. The reason Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch is such a great Suwon spot for group meals is that the staff grill everything for you (thanks to that, we could chat comfortably with our friends the whole meal, and unlike regular BBQ spots where you're too busy grilling to talk, we got to eat the meat right at its best moment).

The moment the meat arrived, I thought "okay, we came to the right place today" ❤ The staff grilled it themselves, and their skills were no joke.

The pork belly was crispy outside, juicy inside — one bite and the juices burst out with that savory flavor, impossible not to drink beer with it... hahahahaha. I'm honestly someone who only likes fatty cuts like hangjeongsal (pork jowl) or samgyeopsal (pork belly), but surprisingly I ended up really enjoying the neck and deoksal too.

Pork neck usually turns dry if it's overcooked, but here it was so moist and tender that Tissue Appa and our friends were all satisfied. Personally, while the pork belly was great, the neck and deoksal were the cuts I remember most.

Yukhoe (beef tartare), included in the Olheun pork set

The yukhoe (Korean-style beef tartare) that came with the pork set was more satisfying than I expected. Made with fresh hanwoo (Korean beef), there was no off smell at all — it melted softly the moment it hit my mouth, with a subtle sweetness rising up. Not overly sweet or heavily seasoned, it had that pure, savory yukhoe flavor. We kept alternating: a bite of yukhoe, a bite of meat, another bite of yukhoe.

Personally, it was great for lightly waking up the appetite before the main meat arrived, and paired perfectly with the Terra draft beer as a drinking snack too.

100g grilled cheese, also included in the set

The grilled cheese that came with the set — honestly, I don't really like greasy food, so I had zero expectations,

but the staff grilled it golden brown, wrapped it with meat, and set it on my plate, so I felt awkward not eating it and forced down a bite,,, and it was actually crispy outside, chewy inside — the texture was genuinely great...?

The salty, savory cheese flavor was strong, and eating meat + cheese together felt like a bit of a delicacy — the kind of thing you keep reaching for! Especially with the juicy pork belly, the savoriness doubled, and I finally understood why cheese is part of the set. Plus, out of all the combos I tried,

myeongi namul (mountain garlic leaf) + melljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) + oi-ji (pickled cucumber) — these three worked best for my taste!! If you're a salt-lover like me, keep this combo in mind.

Finishing with doenjang sul-bap (soybean-paste rice)

Honestly, the real closer that day was the doenjang sul-bap (soybean paste rice porridge). Even after all the meat, yukhoe, and cheese left us stuffed, the doenjang sul-bap still went down easy. You know how rice is basically dessert for Koreans, right?

It comes simmered in a rich doenjang (fermented soybean paste) base — somewhere between doenjang jjigae and gukbap (rice soup). Savory with a bit of a kick, it felt like it wiped away all the greasiness from the meat. Especially with soju, it felt almost like a hangover cure and a perfect way to end the meal. I told myself "I'm full, just one bite," and then realized I was the only one still holding my spoon at the end, going for more hahahahahaha.

Bringing a dog to Olheun Gogi: the carrier bag rule

Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch is a dog-friendly restaurant near Mangpo Station in Suwon. When you search for dog-friendly places in Suwon, there are plenty of cafés, but BBQ restaurants where you can dine with your dog are surprisingly rare. As of August 2026, dogs are allowed, so we brought Tissue in a carrier bag and had a comfortable meal without any issues.

A carrier bag is required so as not to disturb other guests, so keep that in mind before visiting. Also, since dog policies can change, I'd recommend confirming with the restaurant before you go!

Atmosphere and the private room: is Olheun Gogi good for group dinners?

Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch feels less like a typical neighborhood BBQ joint and more clean and spacious. The tables overall had generous spacing, so we never felt crammed next to the next table — more comfortable than chaotic.

What I especially liked was the separate private room space. It seemed great for visits like ours with friend couples, or for family meals, work dinners, or group gatherings. BBQ restaurants can get pretty loud, so having a room meant we could eat a bit more privately.

The restaurant overall was kept clean, and each table had good ventilation, so we didn't feel overwhelmed by smoke or smell during the meal. The meat quality was great, but this comfortable interior atmosphere made the meal even more satisfying. If you're looking for a gathering spot near Mangpo Station or a group dinner spot in Suwon, the private room is worth keeping in mind.

If you're looking for a dog-friendly restaurant in Suwon, Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch seemed like it would score high. The meat quality was great, but what really stood out was that the staff grilled everything from start to finish, letting us eat comfortably the whole time. Thanks to that, we got to catch up properly with Tissue Appa's friend and his partner, and Tissue had a great time too.

From the yukhoe to the grilled cheese to the generous meat portions, everything in the Olheun pork set was satisfying, right down to the doenjang sul-bap. With the private room available, it also seems like a great spot for family meals or gatherings later on.
