Pufferfish and red drum sashimi platter in Sokcho: Daeilho Bangeo
In short
Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo is a sashimi takeout shop tucked inside Sokcho Central Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. Arriving around 3pm, the writer took away a five-fish assorted platter — pufferfish, red drum, rockfish, tuna and salmon — for 45,000 won, handed over in a cooler bag with ice packs plus seaweed, wasabi and soy sauce, so it reached the hotel room still fresh. The fish was firm and not fishy at all, and Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo is worth a second stop for its sushi.

I went to Sokcho Central Market this time. Whenever I visit Sokcho, I always make a point of getting sashimi to go. This time, while looking for a good sashimi takeout spot in Sokcho, I found Daeilho Bangeo inside Sokcho Central Market. After trying it myself, the freshness of the sashimi was excellent and the packaging was so satisfying that I'd love to come back.
Where is Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo in Sokcho Central Market?
Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo is located inside Sokcho Central Market and specializes in sashimi takeout. It's famous as a great sashimi takeout spot in Sokcho, so I really wanted to try it — and when I visited around 3pm, there was still plenty left.

Out front, all kinds of sashimi and sushi were on display, and I naturally stopped as I walked by. Best of all, the owner explained everything so kindly that I could browse comfortably while deciding what to order.

The 45,000-won platter or the flounder and aged-kimchi gimbap?
With so many options on display at Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo, it was hard to decide what to get. True to its reputation as a great sashimi takeout spot in Sokcho, it sells not just assorted sashimi but also sushi and flounder aged-kimchi gimbap (rice roll with fermented kimchi).

The flounder aged-kimchi gimbap looked really delicious too, and I debated buying several, but this time I only bought the assorted platter (₩45,000). The portions were generous and the price was reasonable, so I was tempted to get sushi, the platter, and the flounder gimbap all together — but I decided not to be greedy and just get enough, haha.

Cooler bag packing: fresh all the way to the hotel
They packed my order in a cooler bag like this, which made it easy to carry. Keeping sashimi fresh really matters, and the owner packed it carefully with ice packs inside the cooler bag too.

Thanks to that careful packaging, the sashimi stayed fresh the whole way to the lodging, which made me even happier.

What is in the five-fish platter: pufferfish, red drum, rockfish, tuna, salmon
The assorted platter I bought at Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo this time had five kinds: pufferfish, red drum, rockfish, tuna, and salmon. Rather than a lot of one fish, I got to taste a variety, which made it even more satisfying. The owner generously included seaweed, wasabi, and soy sauce, so I never ran short while eating!

Since the fish is sold fresh every morning straight from the fishermen, the freshness really came through. Trying it myself, I understood why it's called a great sashimi takeout spot in Sokcho. There was no fishy taste at all, and every kind had that wonderfully firm, springy texture!

How the pufferfish, red drum and rockfish tasted
The pufferfish was my first time trying it, and its chewy yet clean texture was so delicious. The red drum was soft and nutty, and the rockfish was chewy — the more I chewed, the better it tasted.

Salmon and tuna wrapped in seaweed
Salmon is my absolute favorite fish, and maybe because it was so fresh, it tasted even better than usual.

The owner recommended wrapping the tuna in seaweed for extra flavor, so I tried it and it was amazing! This time I only got the assorted platter, but I enjoyed it so much I regretted not getting sushi too. Next time I visit, I'm definitely buying sushi along with it!
What to know before visiting Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo
They said sashimi can sell out early, so it's best to call ahead before visiting in the afternoon at Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo. On weekends or during peak season it gets busy, so calling first can save you a wasted trip!
Whenever I come to Sokcho, I pretty much always get sashimi to go, and this visit to Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo ranks among the best I've tried so far. Fresh sashimi, a great variety, kind service, and careful packaging — everything was satisfying! If you want to enjoy sashimi comfortably at your lodging, or you're looking for a good restaurant in Sokcho Central Market or a great sashimi takeout spot in Sokcho, I recommend giving Daeilho Bangeo a try :)
