Why I went to Downtown Burger Galleria Timeworld

Downtown Burger Galleria Timeworld (다운타우너 갤러리아 타임월드) is a handmade burger restaurant inside Galleria department store in Dunsan-dong, Daejeon. The weather has been gorgeous lately, so I took a trip to Daejeon, and after stopping by Galleria in Dunsan-dong I finally went to Downtown Burger, a place I'd really wanted to try. I kept drooling over the photos on Instagram, so I was super excited even before I got there.

Since Downtown Burger is inside Galleria Timeworld, parking is convenient and access is great. The moment I arrived, the trendy interior and the savory smell of patties made me even hungrier. The hip vibe, perfect for people in their 20s, makes it a great spot for photos too.

Downtown Burger Galleria Timeworld sits in the heart of Dunsan-dong, Seo-gu, in the basement food hall of Galleria Timeworld (Gourmet 494), so it's very easy to find. It's within walking distance of Government Complex Station and City Hall Station, and with plenty of bus routes, it's ideal for college students and office workers alike.

A big plus is that you can use the department store's parking lot, so drivers can visit without parking stress. The inside had a modern, hip, very American feel, decorated in the signature clean blue and gray tones, and it felt comfortable.

The restaurant is well divided into zones, so it was cozier than I expected. Honestly, I worried that department store basement restaurants would be too crowded, hectic and distracting. Since it's burgers, turnover is fast, so even when there's a wait, a seat opens up quickly.

How was the avocado burger?

The avocado burger was the thing I was most looking forward to this visit, and its green avocado look is so appealing. Soft, ripe avocado slices were neatly fanned out, and I couldn't help admiring it before even eating. On the first bite, the creamy, nutty flavor of ripe avocado gently wrapped around the juicy, salty beef patty and the richness of the cheese.

Personally, I'd worried the avocado would make it greasy, but the fresh tomato and crunchy romaine, plus a sauce that cleaned up the aftertaste, saved it! It was a moving, ultimate-savory kind of taste.

The Downtowner burger is the signature basic item named after the restaurant itself, a classic American-style burger with a beef patty, bacon, cheese, grilled onion and special sauce. The combo of the savory bun, smoky patty aroma and sweet-salty grilled onion is addictive, and I enjoyed it to the last bite without getting tired of it.

Overall verdict and visit tips

I heard that Downtown Burger shapes its patties in the store every morning from carefully selected chilled beef. Maybe that's why the meat's natural juiciness and flavor really come through. The buns are said to be soft, moist brioche baked daily, and the soft texture goes very well with the patty. Cooking starts the moment you order, so you get the food fresh and warm, which I think is the secret to the taste.
