Off-peak cold udon on Garosu-gil: bukkake tempura by the window, Tebo

In short

Tebo is a Sanuki udon restaurant with house-made noodles on Garosu-gil in Sinsa-dong, Seoul. On a quiet visit after the meal rush, eaten at a seat by the big window, the order was bukkake udon with tempura (14,000 won), kamabata udon with curry, beef and gourmet butter (14,000 won) and an extra shrimp tempura (2,000 won); the chewy fresh noodles and thin, crisp tempura batter stood out. For a cool cold udon meal on a hot day, Tebo's bukkake udon with tempura is the combination to order.

It's getting hotter and hotter, so I think this is the perfect time to go for cold udon, a light, cool meal. I went to Tebo (테보), a house-made Sanuki udon restaurant in Sinsa.

What did we order at Tebo?

At Tebo we ordered kamabata udon with curry, beef and gourmet butter (₩14,000), bukkake udon with tempura (1 shrimp + 4 vegetables) (₩14,000), and one piece of shrimp tempura (₩2,000). The menu is really varied, so you can choose by your own taste, which I loved. You can also order extra tempura.

Thanks to Tebo's signboard with an illustration of someone eating udon, I spotted it from far away at a glance!!

Is Tebo's udon really made in-house?

Tebo has a separate noodle-making space at one side of the restaurant, and seeing the machines and flour makes this Sanuki udon shop even more trustworthy. I guess this chewy noodle came out of that Gompyo flour!

Sanuki udon noodles made fresh at Tebo

I'm really into udon these days, and Tebo makes its own noodles: they knead the dough and cut the noodles themselves instead of using store-bought ones. The noodles were chewy and springy, and I enjoyed them so much.

What are Tebo's atmosphere and seating like?

Tebo has an open kitchen, and it was fun to watch them put the noodles in bowls. Everything looked neatly kept, which made me trust the hygiene and liked it even more. It's set up cleanly with tables and chairs, and there's a bar counter too, so it seems comfortable to eat alone. There are hangers and clothes hooks at one side, and aprons are provided, which was nice.

A relaxed window seat after the meal rush

We visited Tebo after the usual mmealtime, so we could eat in a relaxed way, which was great. When we first walked in, lots of people were eating, so I photographed the interior on our way out. This is where we sat. I liked being able to see outside, and the big window makes it feel more open.

For the review event, please give a drink, a mini udon or a mini tempura set too 🍜 It would be so nice if you ran an event like that 🫶🏻

There's a separate spot to put your bag like this, which was convenient.

Is Tebo's shrimp tempura worth adding?

I added one shrimp tempura (₩2,000) at Tebo and it's so good. Just look at the surface of the batter. It made me trust how clean the oil must have been. It's so crisp and delicious. Please try the shrimp tempura 🍤

What comes with the bukkake udon and tempura?

Ta-da, this is Tebo's bukkake udon with tempura (1 shrimp + 4 vegetables). It comes with shrimp tempura, shishito pepper tempura, kabocha squash tempura and cherry tomato tempura, so eating it is fun. It was plated so beautifully that I kept taking photos. The round red tempura on top was a cherry tomato!!

The batter is really thin and has a lovely crisp texture. The noodles are chewy with a great texture too, and eating them with the tempura made it a more filling meal.

Bukkake udon is served by pouring Tebo's special sauce over cold noodles, so it's the dish where you can feel the texture of the noodles best.

How was the kamabata udon with curry, beef and gourmet butter?

Tebo's kamabata udon (hot noodles tossed with butter and raw egg) with curry, beef and gourmet butter (₩14,000), the curry udon, was also served so carefully, and I enjoyed it a lot.

It looks so tasty 😋

The mini udon is a decent portion too

Tebo's mini udon is quite a generous portion for a mini udon. The savory depth of Tebo's broth filled my mouth. As expected, it's different. The best!

Tebo's wall with traces of celebrity visits

Two walls at Tebo are covered with traces of celebrities who have visited. On a hot summer day you can enjoy cool bukkake udon together with crisp tempura, and the texture of the homemade noodles stands out at Tebo, a place even Hyori unnie has visited. If you like udon, definitely save this and go check it out.
