Plant-filled Hongdae café for cold-brew milk tea and soufflé: Petrico

In short

Petrico is a soufflé dessert café on Jandari-ro in Mapo, Seoul, sitting between Hapjeong and Hongdae. Wanting dessert near the office, the writer ordered the chocolate banana soufflé and the cold-brew alssam milk tea, which arrived in a reusable bottle while the soufflé came out freshly baked and pillowy. With trees and potted plants filling the quiet room, Petrico works just as well for laptop work or a table for one.

What is Petrico like? A Hongdae café that feels like a greenhouse

Petrico café entrance surrounded by trees

Even the entrance feels unique 💝 So many trees planted around the building that it looks like a botanical garden 🌟

Interior of Petrico filled with wooden desks

Inside, it's filled with wooden desks, so the nature-friendly feel made it really comfortable.

Café ceiling with cylindrical light bulbs and fans

The round cylindrical light bulbs paired with fans blowing cool air matched the interior so well. I'm not great at taking photos, but Petrico's space is so pretty that everything comes out looking good!

Toned-down café seating with a workshop feel

It has a bit of a workshop feel too! The whole café is toned-down, and everyone was talking quietly. It seems like a great place to bring a laptop and focus on work later.

Quiet interior view of Petrico

Even near the entrance it has a library-like structure.

Seating and amenities at Petrico: blankets, cushions and solo seats

I chose a seat with a view of the trees at Petrico because the open view was so nice! There were several windows too, so it never felt stuffy 😄

The outside also looked like a botanical garden, with several green potted plants at the entrance — really impressive. There were blankets and cushions near the counter, and using them was so comfortable. Kudos to the owner for thinking of even the small details ❤️🔥

Not sure if it's from an interior design book, but the flower pot on top of the drawer was so beautiful I had to photograph it..💚 The orange flowers had a mysterious harmony with the color of the desk, and looking at them made me feel at ease 🤩 They looked like petals blooming full of sunlight.

There's also a space to sit alone, which felt private! The flower pots here were pretty too, so click ㅋㅋ

The most important part — the menu!

Private solo seating with a flower pot

I ordered the chocolate banana soufflé and the cold-brewed alssam milk tea. The milk tea came in a reusable bottle! I actually needed a water bottle for the office, so this was perfect 😀 The milk tea tasted like the milk tea we all know, but brewed with a tea bag — kind of like steeped tea. At the bottom there were dried leaf-like bits, like black tea, that you could chew!

Pour the milk tea into a cup full of ice~ and it's super refreshing when you drink it 😆 In other countries milk tea is often served warm, but I like it either way, so this made me happy.

I tried the soufflé with excitement too, and since it had just been baked, it was warm and the bread was pillowy-soft — delicious. The soufflé I had before in Jamsil was really disappointing, just an egg roll whipped up a lot 🥹

A plate of freshly baked chocolate banana soufflé

Eating just the bread gets boring, so I dipped the banana in chocolate syrup, and the sweetness refreshed my mouth — the banana was delicious too. Luckily the banana was well-ripened, so it was even sweeter, just right.

On top of the banana especially were thinly sliced chocolate chips, and the crunchy texture was so addictive I kept wanting more (^з^)-☆ The kind of taste where you want to scoop up chocolate chips by the spoonful ㅜ

It's been a while since I had banana fondue too 🥰 I don't think I've had it since elementary school, so it brought back memories.

Halfway through eating ㅋㅋ looking back now, there's a green leaf on top of the soufflé, and isn't the visual just so pretty!!! Just like all of you 💞💞

An empty soufflé plate cleaned thoroughly

I don't usually clean my plate this thoroughly, but that's how good the chocolate banana soufflé was!! 🌟🌟 Looking around the café, maybe because it's Hongdae, there were so many people dressed super stylishly. I want to come back dressed cute to match the vibe and take photos next time 😆💚

My stomach feels bloated and sore, probably because I ate mala tang for dinner. I'm on my way home now, but it feels refreshing knowing I wrapped up the day well.
