Seongsu date-night spot: yolk crab risotto at Seongsu Darak

Seongsu Darak (성수다락) is a Western restaurant famous as a brunch spot in Seongsu. There are so many pretty brunch cafés and date spots in Seongsu these days, right? It had been a while, and with the weekend here I wanted tasty Western food in a nice atmosphere, so I headed to Seongsu Darak.

You can find Seongsu Darak while strolling the back alleys of Seongsu, and it already has a reputation as a date spot worth queuing for.

How to find Seongsu Darak and its picture-frame door handle

Come out of Seongsu Station Exit 3 and walk slowly, and you'll find Seongsu Darak inside an alley. The unusual design caught my eye as soon as I arrived: you have to pull a picture-frame-shaped handle to open the door.

It feels a bit like stepping into a secret room, so lots of people were taking photos right at the entrance. The first impression is memorable, so it's a little bit of fun whether you come with a partner or friends.

Is there a wait at Seongsu Darak? Booking and review event tips

Seongsu Darak tends to have a wait on weekends and at peak times, so if you're planning a visit, I recommend booking through Naver. There's also an on-site review event: leave a Naver receipt review or a Google Maps review and you get a free drink, so it's worth doing.

What is the atmosphere like inside Seongsu Darak?

Climb the stairs and step inside, and a warm space split over the 2nd and 3rd floors opens up. White curtains and soft lighting work together to give it a cozy, neat feel overall.

Antique furniture and pretty tableware dotted around add a classic touch, and the view of the Seongsu alleys through the big windows was lovely.

How does Seongsu Darak's spicy crab risotto with egg yolk taste?

At Seongsu Darak we ordered the chopped pork shoulder steak, the spicy crab risotto and a yuja ade (citron drink). For the risotto, you pop the fresh egg yolk sitting in the middle and mix it through.

The richness of the yolk blended with the spicy, creamy sauce for an addictive savory depth.

The whole crab legs came apart easily, and the mild crab meat with the spicy rice was such a joy in the mouth. With the crab in whole pieces, the risotto had even more flavor.

Seongsu Darak's chopped pork shoulder steak with wasabi and whole-grain mustard

The chopped pork shoulder steak came as thick-cut pieces, tenderly grilled and glossy. It had none of the dryness pork shoulder can have, and juices burst out with every bite. Topping it with wasabi or whole-grain mustard made the flavor even deeper.

The smooth mashed potatoes and garnish vegetables served alongside went neatly with the richness of the meat. The pork was so tender and cut small enough to eat in one bite, so I think women will find it easy to eat too.

Seongsu Darak verdict: is it a good Seongsu date restaurant?

Overall, the dishes look great and the flavors are well balanced, so I could see why Seongsu Darak is steadily loved as a Seongsu brunch spot.

If I had to name drawbacks, there's no parking, and as a popular place it can have a wait at peak times. Still, if you book ahead you can enjoy it quite smoothly. If you want a charming date or reliably tasty Western food in Seongsu, I'd really recommend Seongsu Darak.
