A sushi spot near Yeungnam University: what is Sonsi Sushi Yeungnam University Main Branch like?

If you're looking for a good place to eat near Yeungnam University in Gyeongsan, Sonsi Sushi Yeungnam University Main Branch (손시스시) is a sushi restaurant I'd recommend without hesitation! I bet it's famous among the students, and even though we went at an awkward time of day, there were lots of customers T_T Luckily we didn't have to wait, but at lunchtime I think this place would have a line.

I ate until I was totally full with the value set plus futomaki (thick sushi roll), and I understood right away why people recommend it ,,

Location and hours of Sonsi Sushi Yeungnam University Main Branch

Sonsi Sushi Yeungnam University Main Branch is at 325 Daehak-ro, Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk, and it's open every day from 11:30 to 21:00. Break time is 15:30-16:30, last orders are at 15:00 and 20:30, and there's no break time on public holidays and weekends.

This is the entrance! It has been open since 2015, so it's a sushi place with over 10 years behind it haha It's close to Yeungnam University subway station too, so I bet students and office workers come often, and it was easy to get to~!

What's on the Sonsi Sushi menu?

For lunch specials, Sonsi Sushi Yeungnam University Main Branch offers a sashimi rice bowl and a great-value set at low prices haha Beyond that there were set menus, assorted sushi, single sushi pieces, rolls, noodles and drinks. Really a wide choice!

This time I ordered the value set and futomaki haha A spread that really lives up to its name for value!! 10 pieces of sushi, plus an aged chojang (sweet-and-spicy sauce) sashimi rice bowl, shrimp tempura and cold soba! Hearty, right?

There's a kids' menu too, so it seems like a nice place for families haha The children's sushi is so cute~~!

Shop extras, seating and parking

Sonsi Sushi Yeungnam University Main Branch had hair ties, dental floss, toothpicks, hand cream, wet wipes, mouthwash and even candy ready for customers, which was so nice haha A place full of thoughtfulness for its guests!

There's no dedicated parking lot, but there was a parking guide posted.

There are bar-style seats (dacchi-seok) and regular tables. The shop is small but has a variety of seats, which I liked haha A place with a line ,,

Sonsi Sushi uses a jujube sushi soy sauce, which made it feel extra special haha

We ordered Coke and Coke Zero first, and had a little refresher as soon as they came out haha

What's in the Sonsi Sushi value set, and how big is it?

The Sonsi Sushi value set comes with 10 pieces of sushi, cold soba, an aged chojang sashimi rice bowl and shrimp tempura. This alone looks like it would fill up two people completely, a real value menu!!

Here comes our order~ The menu is so varied that anyone who likes sushi should be happy here. Every part of the set was good quality, so this sushi set left me very satisfied.

Futomaki

The Sonsi Sushi futomaki is so big you can't fit it in one bite, and it's packed full! Egg, cucumber, pickled radish, salmon and more come together nicely, and the texture is really rich. No ingredient felt like it was off on its own, and the balance was great!

What a hearty spread, right? Just looking at it makes my heart feel full haha

10 pieces of sushi

The 10 pieces of sushi in the value set had really fresh fish, and the rice was seasoned just right, so it was easy and pleasant to eat. There was a nice variety of types, which made it fun, and the texture that melts softly in your mouth was great!! I just love the salmon and tuna so much haha

Cold soba

The cold soba (cold buckwheat noodles) has a wonderfully refreshing broth! It goes well with the sushi and is well balanced overall haha

Aged chojang sashimi rice bowl

Personally, what I really loved was the Sonsi Sushi aged chojang sashimi rice bowl!! Unlike a regular sashimi rice bowl, it uses aged fish, so the umami is deep haha The sweet, tangy chojang, vegetables and fish went together so well that I kept reaching for more haha Mixed with the rice, the whole bowl vanished in no time!! It's even better with plenty of chojang.

Shrimp tempura

The value set's shrimp tempura comes as 4 pieces and was better than I expected haha The batter was crispy and the shrimp inside was plump and bouncy, so the texture was so good! Dipped in the sauce, it's delicious haha It didn't feel like a simple side; it had main-dish presence.

Is Sonsi Sushi Yeungnam University Main Branch worth going back to?

Every piece of sushi was tasty, so I can see why Sonsi Sushi is a favorite near Yeungnam University! The quality for the price is great and the portions are generous, so it feels just right for students to visit without worrying about the bill. You can feel the care in every dish, and it felt like a proper meal haha

A happy spread hahaha It was the university festival and we went to see Psy, and then adding a great sushi place on top made it such a memorable, good day haha

I think I'll be thinking of this place every time I'm near Yeungnam University! If you love sushi or futomaki especially, I think you're very likely to be happy here haha
