Namhansanseong bakery café with forest views and bread: Café Sum

I visited Café Sum (카페 숨), a Namhansanseong bakery café, because I wanted to have coffee and bread while looking out at the forest. After following a winding road uphill, I found a spacious, quiet café. The forest and fields beyond its floor-to-ceiling windows were especially memorable.

Where is Café Sum, and is parking convenient?

The address is 108-11 Ojeom-gil, Namhansanseong-myeon, Gwangju, Gyeonggi, South Korea. Located deeper inside the fortress village, it had a quiet atmosphere away from the noise of the city.

There was a large private parking lot directly in front of and beside the building. The spaces between cars were generous, so parking was easy, and I felt it would be a good stop during a drive.

As of the original post date, Sep 9, 2026, the listed hours were 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Where can you enjoy the forest view?

When I stepped inside, the high ceiling made the space feel open and airy. Long pendant lights, glass railings, and neutral-colored furniture came together in a calm interior.

The second-floor window seats were especially appealing for enjoying the view. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the green forest and fields stretched out in one glance. There was also an outdoor terrace where I could drink coffee while feeling the breeze on a clear day, with parasols provided.

With coffee and bread in front of me, looking out at the scenery made me feel as if I were taking a leisurely break.

Natural light came through the large windows, making them a nice backdrop for photos. The tables were also spaced comfortably far apart.

Separate men’s and women’s restrooms were available on both the first and second floors, making them convenient to reach. They were clean and well maintained when I visited.

What bread and desserts can you choose?

A long bakery display stood in the center of the first floor. There was a wide variety, from chestnut bread filled with red bean paste and chestnuts to pastries, salt bread, and assorted cookies.

At the counter, I also saw information about sliced cakes and the signature menu item, “Sumsum White Roll.” The white roll was described as a combination of mascarpone whipped cream and castella sponge cake.

How were the coffee and bread I ordered?

We chose two decaf iced Americanos, red bean bread, and Mont Blanc bread. A Victoria Arduino espresso machine also caught my eye at the ordering counter.

I enjoyed the scenery outside while drinking the cool decaf iced Americano. The coffee seemed to taste even better with the forest in view.

I liked the pastry’s crispness as it tore along its layers when cut with a fork. The red bean bread had whole chestnuts inside, and it paired well with the coffee.

What stayed with me most after the visit?

What I remember most was the time I spent relaxing while looking at nature through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The spacious interior, generous table spacing, and convenient parking made the visit feel unhurried.

I would like to return when I want to enjoy coffee and bread with a forest view. Next time, I want to try some of the other bakery items.
