I wanted a meal that was neat and clean but still made me feel properly looked after, not some big, heavy night out. While wandering the neighborhood, I stopped at a place already famous for its tidy, home-style rice bowls: Haekbap Amsa (핵밥 암사점), a well-known spot in Amsa. Here's my honest review of the salmon bowl and shio ramen I polished off. Let's dig in!

Is Haekbap Amsa comfortable for eating alone?
The warm, cozy white-and-wood interior makes it easy to walk in by yourself. The decor is the first thing that greets you when you step inside.

It isn't loud or chaotic. The mood is calm overall, which makes it just right for a relaxed solo meal.

The table layout and space are set up so you never feel awkward on your own, which makes it an ideal solo dining spot in Gangdong-gu and a hot spot for eating alone in Amsa.

You order at a kiosk, so there's no pressure while choosing, and the whole place is kept spotless, without a trace of grease. It gave me the relief of having found a truly good restaurant in Amsa.

What I ordered at Haekbap Amsa
This time I ordered the salmon bowl and shio ramen (salt-broth ramen). There are plenty of signature dishes, from steak bowls onward, but after many visits my verdict is that Haekbap Amsa is great for its generous salmon and is a surprisingly good ramen spot.

Salmon bowl: raw salmon so thick it hides the rice
The salmon bowl at Haekbap Amsa is topped with big, thickly cut raw salmon, so much that you can't see the rice, and the look alone is overwhelming. It was the first dish I ever tried here and it's still my favorite.

Salmon that isn't fresh gets that telltale fishy smell, but the salmon here has no fishiness at all and melts softly in your mouth.

Fluffy white rice is lightly drizzled with a special soy sauce. Put a piece of salmon on top with fresh wasabi and sliced onion, eat it in one bite, and wow, it's amazing!

I've been to other Haekbap branches too, and the Amsa one is far tastier. I guess it's because turnover is high, so the fish stays fresh.

A pleasant savory richness fills your mouth, and I instantly understood why everyone calls Haekbap Amsa a top-tier rice bowl restaurant in Amsa.

Shio ramen: a surprisingly good ramen at a rice bowl shop
The shio ramen at Haekbap Amsa pairs a clear, clean chicken broth with chewy noodles. I ordered it because I figured the rice bowl alone might leave me wanting some soup, and it turned out to be the perfect call of the day.

Ramen at a rice bowl specialist usually feels like a side dish, so I didn't expect much, but one spoonful of broth opened my eyes wide. The clear, clean chicken broth has real depth, and the chewy, springy noodles go with it perfectly.

The refreshing lightness of shio ramen goes so well with the richness of the salmon bowl that my chopsticks never stopped, and I kept switching between the two.

The quality rivals proper ramen specialists, so there's no need to go far: Haekbap Amsa fully satisfies a ramen craving in Gangdong-gu. If you want a filling meal near Amsa Station, I'm all for this combo!

Is Haekbap Amsa worth a return visit in Amsa-dong?
Haekbap Amsa is a must when you crave a neat, tidy meal. Fresh salmon bowl, plus shio ramen that soothes you right down to your stomach! Thanks to this carefully prepared spread, I emptied my bowls down to the last spoonful, very satisfied.
It didn't feel like just grabbing a quick bite. It felt like treating myself to a properly warm meal, and that made it a really good rice bowl spot in Amsa.

If you want a tidy meal alone, or an easy place to drop in with a friend in Amsa, don't hesitate to visit. At Haekbap Amsa, a restaurant with solid fundamentals, you'll definitely walk out pleasantly full!
