In short
Naemyeonui Balgyeon (내면의 발견) is a large, white hanok-style café in an alley near Hapjeong Station on Woldeukeopbuk-ro 5-gil in Mapo, Seoul. On a weekday afternoon the writer worked at a 2nd-floor window stand seat with the Signature Forest Cloud and Artemis (rose white tea), unwinding to a stone bridge over flowing water on the 1st floor and calm background music. Today I'd like to introduce Naemyeonui Balgyeon (내면의 발견), a atmospheric café near Hapjeong Station that's perfect for taking a short break from a busy day.
I visited on July 17 at around 2:20 PM, walking over after finishing some errands near Hapjeong Station. It was a place where I could sink completely into resting.
What are the exterior and first impression of Naemyeonui Balgyeon like?
Naemyeonui Balgyeon is a neat, white, hanok-style (traditional Korean house) building in an alley near Hapjeong Station. After getting off at Hapjeong Station and picking up a few things at Olive Young, I walked into the alley and this building caught my eye.

The exterior has the words "Fill," "Pause" and "Immerse" written on it along with a QR code, so it feels less like a simple café and more like a cultural space.

There's a pretty mirror by the entrance, which makes it a perfect photo spot. You can get your best-photo-ever shot here.

A stone bridge over flowing water, mist and the interior mood
On the 1st floor of Naemyeonui Balgyeon, real water flows across the floor, with a charming stone bridge over it. The moment I opened the door and stepped inside, I couldn't help but gasp.
With mist rising thickly on top of that, it had a mysterious atmosphere that's clearly different from the typical Hapjeong café.

Menu and how to order
Naemyeonui Balgyeon had a varied lineup of specialty drinks and premium teas. Everything from the signature drinks to the teas was well described, so choosing something to suit my taste was easy.

After ordering, they hand you a vibrating buzzer, so you can settle into a seat and wait comfortably.

How do the seats differ by floor?
What impressed me is that each floor of Naemyeonui Balgyeon has a different feel: water-view seats on the 1st floor; sofa private rooms, group seats and window seats on the 2nd floor; and outdoor seats on the rooftop.
1st floor: water-view seats
You can look out over the calm water feature, and many families and people on dates or blind dates were sitting here.

2nd floor: sofa private rooms, group seats and window seats
The 2nd floor has a private room with comfortable sofas, group seats,

and cozy window seats.

Rooftop: outdoor seats
The rooftop has open outdoor seating, which seems nice to visit in a cool season.

A good seat for writing alone: the 2nd-floor window stand seat
I sat at the 2nd-floor window-side spot with a desk lamp and spent some quiet time writing. The music in the café isn't loud and is mostly calm instrumental pieces without lyrics, so the tension in my mind loosened and my thoughts felt like they were sorting themselves out.

Soon my drinks came out, signaled by the buzzer. The glass fits snugly into a small plate with handles on both sides.

What does the Signature Forest Cloud taste like?
The Signature Forest Cloud is Naemyeonui Balgyeon's flagship drink: the bitterness of matcha followed by the subtle sweetness of coconut. It catches your eye from the very look of it.

With the first sip, the bitter matcha flavor spreads deeply, and then the gentle, refined sweetness of coconut wraps around it. It isn't the overpowering sweetness of artificial sugar, so it stays clean and fresh all the way through.

When you want something cool to tidy up your palate, the Signature Forest Cloud will leave you very satisfied.

How is the Artemis (rose white tea)?
Artemis is a white tea with a fragrant, subtle rose aroma. It was served at just the right temperature, not too hot, so I could drink it right away.
The deep flavor of a warm, neat cup of tea soothes the stomach and feels healing.

Amenities: restrooms and Wi-Fi
The restrooms at Naemyeonui Balgyeon are separated for men and women, and the inside is kept clean and pleasant. There's hand soap too, so you can wash your hands properly.

There are tissues in front of the order counter, and Wi-Fi information is posted too!
Is Naemyeonui Balgyeon worth going back to?
It was a happy day discovering Naemyeonui Balgyeon in Hapjeong. The cozy atmosphere that people of all ages would like, the taste of the carefully made drinks, and the comfort of the space were all perfect.
Next time too, I plan to come back after a tasty lunch for a clean finish and a relaxed time. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants pretty photos and a comfortable rest!
