I had lunch at Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch (소담촌 수원정자점), a great spot for a date or for shabu-shabu in Suwon! Both the shabu-shabu ingredients and the spring roll ingredients are unlimited, which I loved, so let me share a detailed review!
Where is Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch?
Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch is on the 4th floor of Gyeongseong Building on Jeongjacheon-ro in Jangan-gu, Suwon. Since it's on the 4th floor, I recommend taking the elevator up!
What are Sodamchon's dining room and waiting area like?
The waiting area is spacious, so it looked comfortable even if you have to wait! Besides the area in the photo, there are sofa seats on the other side too!
This Suwon shabu-shabu restaurant was roomy and tidy! I liked the soft lighting too! There are also separated seating areas, so it's a good idea to book before you go. It works well for group meals in Suwon, family dinners and company gatherings.
What's on the Sodamchon self-bar?
At the Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch self-bar, the shabu-shabu ingredients and spring roll ingredients are unlimited! There was a wide variety, and the top of the open refrigerator at the self-bar was really clean! You can tell the owner and staff care about it haha. They even have tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), so kids would probably love it~
The spring roll ingredients had everything too. Personally I love spring rolls, so this was a big plus! Perilla leaves and cucumber are an absolute must, and they have both~ The rice paper for the spring rolls is also at the self-bar!
You can also refill the broth yourself: take it to your table, and put it back in its place after use!
What's on Sodamchon's weekday lunch menu?
We ordered from the weekday lunch menu at Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch. The lunch menu had plenty of options too! Among them, we ordered the mushroom shabu!
Even outside the lunch special, the prices are low enough that you can eat here without worry~ With a bigger group prices can get scary, so I recommend Sodamchon in Jeongja-dong, Suwon for its value!
Table setup and the 4 dipping sauces
Staff bring the sauces to your table, and you scoop out as much as you want! The small plates were perfect for eating spring rolls~
I brought back ingredients from the self-bar~ There were no perilla leaves in what I'd picked up, but they refilled them, so I grabbed some afterward haha. You can't skip the perilla leaves~
Which mushrooms come with Sodamchon's mushroom shabu?
When we ordered the mushroom shabu at Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch, 4 extra kinds of mushrooms came out~ That included lion's mane mushroom, which you don't get to eat easily. As a mushroom lover, I was very happy with the mushroom lineup for the price haha. Satisfied!
We're pretty lazy, so we just dropped everything in at once~ Only the meat went in after the vegetables came to a boil~
The spring roll ingredients had everything, so wrapping and eating them was so good~ It was so tasty that I ate a lot! When it's delicious you end up overeating haha. There were 4 kinds of sauce, so I dipped in each one and they were all delicious!
Finishing with porridge and noodles
You can't skip porridge after shabu-shabu, right?? At Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch, they brought the porridge ingredients when the first broth came out~ (Kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) and other noodles are unlimited at the self-bar!) It smelled of sesame oil and was so soft, a perfect end to the meal!
What desserts does Sodamchon offer?
Desserts at Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch include ice cream, peach black tea, pomegranate tea and coffee! But the food was so good that I ate too much and couldn't have dessert. What a pity, because the dessert selection was really wide?! You can tell they put a lot of care into dessert too!
It's a Suwon shabu-shabu favorite and it's near Starfield, so it's very easy to reach, and the food is good, so there's no reason not to go~ Recommended!
Where do you park for Sodamchon Suwon Jeongja Branch?
For parking, you have to use the building next door, not the restaurant's own building. If you search '선일주차장' (Seonil Parking Lot), it sends you to a different neighborhood...!! Be sure to search '선일주차타운빌딩' (Seonil Parking Town Building) or '선일주차타운빌딩지상주차장입구'~
