Kkachisan Japanese diner: mazesoba, mini rice, spicy cutlet, Hekbap
In short
Hekbap Kkachisan Branch is a Japanese rice bowl, noodle and tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant on the 2nd floor of 35 Gangseo-ro, near Kkachisan Station in Gangseo, Seoul. On a hot weekend lunch, two people shared mazesoba, cold soba (naengmomil) and a spicy king pork cutlet: the mazesoba was tasty enough to mix into the free mini rice, the cold soba was cool and clean, and the spicy king pork cutlet was genuinely hot, just as the name says. If you like mazesoba, Hekbap Kkachisan Branch is worth trying at least once.

Today I visited Hekbap, a great restaurant in Kkachisan~! The food was so good and the staff so kind that I was really happy with it! Let me review it right away!!
Hekbap Kkachisan Branch is close to Kkachisan Station, so it's easy to get to and a perfect spot for lunch or dinner. Whenever I walked past, it was packed with customers and I kept thinking, "I have to try that sometime~" Once I actually went, I could see why it's so popular!

Inside Hekbap Kkachisan Branch at weekend lunch
The inside of Hekbap Kkachisan Branch is clean and really spacious!! I went on a weekend lunch, and I was surprised that people kept coming in even at lunchtime.

What did two people order at Hekbap?
My boyfriend and I ordered three dishes: mazesoba, cold soba and a spicy giant pork cutlet. The Hekbap menu had so many delicious-looking dishes that I agonized over what to order for ages T_T I thought really hard about what to eat~~~ and this is what we picked!
- Mazesoba
- Cold soba (naengmomil)
- Spicy giant pork cutlet
When two people come, ordering three dishes is the golden rule, right?!

Hekbap mazesoba: why you should mix in the free mini rice
The first dish to arrive was the Hekbap mazesoba! I'm totally obsessed with mazesoba lately and eat it all the time, and Hekbap's is famous for being good, so I was really looking forward to it!

That enchanting look.. With Hekbap's mazesoba you can add a mini rice for free when you order, so mixing rice into the leftover sauce after the noodles is a must! Honestly, I think I like the rice even more than the noodles,,,,,,
Ahh, the mazesoba was so, so good!!!! While eating I honestly thought, wow, I could eat two bowls T_T It was delicious and suited my taste perfectly! There was plenty of sauce and no gamey smell, so it was great! Breaking the yolk and mixing it in made it much nuttier and brought out the savory depth, which I really loved!

How was Hekbap's cold soba on a hot day?
Hekbap's cold soba has a clean broth that isn't too salty, and the noodles are springy, so it's perfect for a hot day. The weather was so hot that day that I ordered cold soba too!! Cold soba is basically a snack, so my boyfriend and I each ordered our own dish and shared the cold soba!

The cold soba was also so refreshing and tasty! I'd drunk quite a lot the night before, and it felt like the hangover just melted away! So good!! The broth was clean and not too salty, so I kept reaching for more. The noodles were springy too, a perfect dish for hot weather!!

Hekbap spicy king pork cutlet: how spicy and how big?
Hekbap's spicy giant pork cutlet is very large and, true to its name, really spicy. My boyfriend ordered it, and I was shocked at the size first. The portion is huge, wow!!!!!!!!!!

The spicy giant cutlet was delicious too! And true to its name, it was really spicy!!!!!! After one bite my stomach hurt.. so I barely ate any of it T_T But the sauce was so good that I think people who like spicy food will love it!!!!! It tasted like a mix of yangnyeom chicken (sweet-spicy glazed fried chicken) and buldak (fiery chicken), addictive and the kind of flavor you keep thinking about! The cutlet was thick and crispy too, and the texture was so!!! satisfying!
Service and overall verdict at Hekbap Kkachisan Branch
The staff at Hekbap Kkachisan Branch were friendly, and the food came out quickly after ordering. I was in a good mood the whole meal, and the portions were generous, so I thought it was good value too. It stuck in my memory as a place I'd like to visit again next time I'm near Kkachisan.
Overall, everything was delicious and satisfying at Hekbap, a great restaurant in Kkachisan! If you like mazesoba especially, please try it at least once! Adding a hearty cutlet or refreshing cold soba would make the meal even better! If you're looking for a good restaurant in Kkachisan, I confidently recommend Hekbap~~~~~~
