Hapjeong Station Korean BBQ worth reordering: pork rib set, Jeongyukdo
In short
Jeongyukdo (정육도) is a Korean beef and pork BBQ restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building right outside Exit 5 of Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. On a return visit, the writer reordered the handon (Korean pork) set (49,000 won) enjoyed last time and added cheesy spicy braised ribs (13,000 won); the well-aged fresh pork ribs were the highlight. Jeongyukdo near Hapjeong Station: location and how to get there
Jeongyukdo (정육도) is less than a minute's walk from Exit 5 of Hapjeong Station, so it's super easy to reach 😙 I wanted juicy meat, and my friend ❤️ wanted canelés, so we came back to Jeongyukdo in Hapjeong after a long while!

The outside~ Jeongyukdo is on the 2nd floor of a building at the start of the Hapjeong food alley, and it sits in a nice quiet spot!

What are Jeongyukdo's outdoor terrace and indoor seats like?
At the entrance of the building there's a wide terrace that feels like a little garden. On a nice day you can drink and eat great meat here, yajang (outdoor drinking spot) style, and the vibe is the best haha. Now, inside!

At the door there are autographs from lots of celebrities, so you get that "this place is good" feeling from the entrance! 😊

Inside, the restaurant is bigger than I expected and split into several spaces. The tables are nicely spaced, and besides regular hall tables there are lots of private, room-like seats, so it seems really good for company dinners and group gatherings!

The interior is clean and stylish without being too flashy, and it keeps that comfortable BBQ-restaurant feel. Seeing the meat aging in the fridge by the entrance also builds trust! 😄

Jeongyukdo menu: hanwoo and handon
Jeongyukdo handles both hanwoo (Korean beef) and handon (Korean pork) properly. On the hanwoo side there are premium cuts like 1++ marbling No. 9 chuck flap (salchisal), skirt (anchangsal) and sirloin, plus hanwoo sets, and the handon side offers fresh ribs, marinated ribs, pork belly, neck and special cuts~

The good-value handon set is especially popular, and for meals there are hanwoo doenjang sul-bap (soybean paste rice), ugeoji sul-guk (cabbage hangover soup), naengmyeon (cold noodles), spicy braised ribs and more 😣

The default sauces are salt, wasabi and whole-grain mustard, and it was nice that you can help yourself!

The scallion salad and pickled onions come in generous portions, plenty to eat with the meat~ Here's what we ordered!
- Handon set ₩49,000
- Cheesy spicy braised ribs ₩13,000

Jeongyukdo handon set at ₩49,000: why I ordered it again
Jeongyukdo's handon set is fresh pork ribs + flower neck + pork belly, 500g in total, and it was generous for two people. It's the signature menu, and I enjoyed it so much last time that I ordered the same thing again 😋

You grill it yourself, but the staff help trim the bones off the fresh pork ribs, so it's no hassle 😃

Let's grill the fresh ribs and pork belly first~

The meat is cooking up nicely haha. Let's dig into the cooked pork belly and the fresh pork ribs (250g per serving, domestic) first, haha!

Fresh pork ribs: my top pick in the handon set
The fresh pork ribs were the heart of the handon set and the cut that impressed me most 😆 They have that faint bone aroma typical of fresh ribs but almost no gamey smell, and they felt well aged, so they were full of juice. Grilled over charcoal, the outside gets slightly crisp while the inside stays moist! The part stuck right to the bone was richer and nuttier when chewed, and the juices spreading in my mouth were superb haha.

A light dip in salt or wasabi was good too 🥰
Pork belly: a decent thickness, easy to grill
Jeongyukdo's pork belly is well aged, with a light color and evenly spread fat layers. When grilled, a fitting amount of fat runs out and the crisp texture comes alive while the inside stays tender 🤓 The charcoal aroma soaked in well for a nutty flavor, and eating it with the scallion salad and pickled onions refreshes your mouth!

Unlike at other pork belly places, it isn't too thick or tough, just the right thickness, so it was easy to grill and easy to eat haha.
Flower neck (kkotmoksal): meaty flavor you don't get tired of
The flower neck has a vivid pink color, and since fat and lean are nicely mixed, it's tender when grilled yet has a strong meaty flavor~ Take a bite of the cooked neck and just the right amount of fat comes out as the richness shoots up!

It isn't tough, and it isn't greasy like pork belly, so you can keep eating it without getting sick of it haha.

Jeongyukdo cheesy spicy braised ribs at ₩13,000: how spicy is it?
The cheesy spicy braised ribs are made with domestic ribs, and the sauce isn't too spicy but still rich, with a kick and some depth 😚

The spicy sauce mixed with nutty cheese gives an addictive taste, and after fatty meat it cleans up your mouth, so it was a perfect finish!
Overall verdict on Jeongyukdo near Hapjeong Station
Overall, Jeongyukdo at Hapjeong Station clearly had good meat quality and a well-aged feel! The atmosphere is private and relaxed, and there's even a terrace where you can have a drink with great meat yajang-style, so I strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a BBQ place in Hapjeong with a good mood 🤭 Next time I really want to try the hanwoo too haha. If you're looking for a great BBQ spot near Hapjeong Station, go to Jeongyukdo at least once 🤩
