Today I went to a BBQ place near Hapjeong Station that people in the know already know about, Jeongyukdo (정육도), haha. Unlike a typical meat joint, you get high-quality charcoal-grilled meat in a stylish setting, so I really wanted to introduce it to anyone looking for a clean, nice Korean BBQ spot near Hapjeong Station 😊

How close is Jeongyukdo to Hapjeong Station?
Jeongyukdo is on the 2nd floor of a building at the start of an alley, a short walk from Exit 5 or 6 of Hapjeong Station! From Exit 5 it's a 1-minute walk, so it's super convenient ☺️ There's no parking though, so I'd recommend public transport!
Outside Jeongyukdo: 2nd-floor glass windows and patio tables
From the stairs up, stylish lighting greets you, and the first impression is less "regular meat place" and more "fancy restaurant" 😆 Since it's on the 2nd floor, the big glass windows give you an open view of the cute Hapjeong alley scenery 😣 There are also patio-style tables, so on weather like this it's nice to grill meat outside with the vibe, haha.
Is the inside of Jeongyukdo good for dates and blind dates?
The first things you notice when you walk in are the wide window seats and the terrace feel! 😌 On a nice day, with the windows wide open, a cool breeze comes through and it feels romantic, like having a barbecue outdoors, haha.
With the neat mix of black and wood tones plus soft mood lighting, I bet it's popular for dates, blind dates, or wedding invitation get-togethers 🤭

Will the meat smell stay on your clothes?
Each table gets its own individual grill, and the smoke extraction is so strong that the place feels fresh and clean, not greasy or acrid! I liked that I didn't have to worry as much about my clothes smelling of meat 🤓

Jeongyukdo menu and Handon set price
The Handon (Korean pork) set at Jeongyukdo is ₩49,000, and that's what we ordered, haha. You can also order hanwoo (Korean beef) and pork by the single item, but the set, which lets you taste a good range of cuts, is overwhelmingly the most popular 😋 There are also side dishes to cut the richness or fill you up after the meat!

Which cuts come in the Handon set?
Here comes Jeongyukdo's signature Handon set 😙 It lets you enjoy the tastiest pork cuts at once, including raw galbi (unmarinated ribs), flower pork neck and pork belly, and it's generous and neatly arranged! The bright pink color and even marbling prove its freshness just by looking, and the meat is so thick that I bet the chew is great too 😌

How did the charcoal-grilled Handon taste?
Jeongyukdo's biggest charm is the charcoal grill right on your table, and the strong charcoal flames should sear the outside of the thick pork in no time and lock in the tender juices 😚

Pork turning golden over the charcoal~

Let's dig into the cooked meat!

The moment I took a bite of Jeongyukdo's Handon, deep charcoal aroma filled my mouth and the savory juices burst out! Crispy outside, juicy inside, a textbook example! There was no gamey smell at all, and the natural flavor of the meat that spreads as you chew, plus the smoky char, was art, haha.

Side dishes and sauces
It was also insanely delicious with the clean pickles (jangajji), scallion salad (pajeori), onions and special sauces to go with the meat!

The meat itself is so good that you can just add a little salt or wasabi and savor the charcoal aroma, and if you mix and match the side dishes, you never get tired of it and keep eating 😌
Hanwoo doenjang stew included in the Handon set
The Handon set at Jeongyukdo comes with hanwoo doenjang stew (soybean paste stew with Korean beef)!!

There's quite a lot of hanwoo in it, so I wondered if it's really something that comes with the set 😚 The rich, thick broth was top-notch and I enjoyed it so much!! 😣
Verdict: who is Jeongyukdo in Hapjeong right for?
All in all, Jeongyukdo is a Hapjeong Station favorite where you can really feel the moody atmosphere of the 2nd-floor window seats and the charm of grilled meat infused with subtle charcoal aroma 🤩 If you want proper premium Handon BBQ in a clean, stylish space, go without hesitation!
