Seochon salt bread café next to Cheongwadae Sarangchae: Respire

A famous Seochon spot for salt bread that also happens to have decent coffee — Respire Bakery. The interior is full of atmosphere and feels so cozy, perfect for chatting over brunch. The bread was tasty and the coffee was solid too, so it's a great stop when you're out and about in the area.

Cheongwadae Sarangchae (a presidential heritage hall) is right next door, so we popped in for a quick look too. Along with the coffee, it made for a nice half-day date course.

Where is Respire Bakery Cafe Seochon, and where do you park?

It was a scorching weekend in early August. Being cooped up at home felt so stuffy that my husband and I headed out to this Seochon salt bread spot. The interior was full of atmosphere and the vibe was so good that even a short visit felt like a real reset. 🥹 There's no parking on-site, so we used the nearby public lot instead — ₩300 for 5 hours.

What is the inside of Respire Bakery Cafe like?

Even from outside, the exterior stood out. It's got a woody tone with tons of atmosphere, perfect for weekend brunch. Since it's known as a salt bread spot, I only had bread this time, but the toast looked so good I want to try it next time.

Overall the space blends white and wood tones, giving it a bit of a run-and-BM feel (a certain trendy café aesthetic). It photographs well and feels cozy — great for quietly chatting away the time.

Coffee and tea menu and prices at Respire

Respire Bakery had coffee and tea options. It was so hot I wanted patbingsu (shaved ice dessert), but unfortunately they don't have any. 🥹🥹

Americano is ₩5,500, café latte is ₩6,000, and the other teas run ₩7,000–7,500. I ordered an iced rooibos tea and an iced americano.

Salt bread and ciabatta choices at Respire

There was a fairly wide variety of salt bread, and a few kinds of ciabatta too. They said their principle is to bake fresh daily and discard whatever doesn't sell by end of day.

The basil tomato ciabatta looked really tasty, but sadly I was already too full, so I just stuck with salt bread. 😮

Apparently the salt bread tastes better when you pick ones with a crispy, deep brown crust. With eagle eyes, I picked the two that looked the tastiest — one plain, one garlic cream cheese.

How the garlic cream cheese salt bread and iced rooibos tasted

We registered our number for a KakaoTalk notification and waited. It came out quickly, and even the wood tray felt full of atmosphere. It was such a hot day that the cold coffee and tea really brought me back to life.

The iced americano was smooth with no acidity, a bit like Dutch coffee. The tea was brewed separately and served ready to pour over ice.

The garlic cream cheese salt bread, similar to garlic bread, was seriously delicious. The cream cheese was thick and generous without being greasy — I really enjoyed it.

The plain one was also textbook crispy-outside, soft-inside. I packed one to take home for my sister. She'd love coming out on dates with us too, but she says home is best and never leaves. 🤣

Verdict: a half-day Seochon date with Cheongwadae Sarangchae

After eating, we checked out Cheongwadae Sarangchae right next door. It was less crowded than expected and had a relaxed feel, so we had a great time eating and resting. Respire Bakery was a solid spot for salt bread with coffee and tea in Seochon. Parking was a bit of a hassle, but the nearby public lot worked out fine.
