Yangju bakery café with my husband: squid ink mochi crunch, Doasis

In short

Doasis is a large bakery café in a remodeled former bathhouse near Deokjeong Station in Yangju, Gyeonggi. On a weekend afternoon after lunch, the writer and her husband tried the white roll, green tea injeolmi, cream cheese mochi squid ink crunch and pandoro, plus a Hawaiian Oasis (₩7,800), an Americano (₩4,500) and a black sesame latte (₩8,300). Many breads were already gone, but both loved the cream-filled bread, so go to Doasis early on weekends for the widest bread selection.

What is Doasis, the big café near Deokjeong Station in Yangju?

Doasis is a large bakery café near Deokjeong Station in Yangju, set in a building that used to be a public bathhouse. The 1st floor is a lobby and the café starts on the 2nd floor. There's even a dog playground on the 4th floor where pets can run around!

I usually go for sausage bread or chocolate bread, and I almost did again this time, but since I was there anyway I picked mostly new and signature items. Wow, my husband and I both came away admitting the bread was great. The cream cheese mochi squid ink crunch was my personal number one! Even though we came after lunch on a weekend, the bread was nearly all gone. Here's everything about Doasis, the Yangju bakery café: the breads and drinks we tried, plus parking and the dog playground.

A bathhouse turned into this? Inside Doasis

Doasis isn't just a place to grab bread and leave. It's a roomy café where you can take your time. The fact that it's a renovated old bathhouse is interesting enough, and the plants and palm trees give it an exotic feel. They say the cycad flower in the indoor garden is really hard to see even on Jeju Island! Go see it and wish yourself some luck ☘️

Doasis is a nice spot for a café date with a friend or a family outing, snacking on bread and drinks. Still, what satisfied me most this visit was the bread. I used to think that when a café is this big, the bread is often just so-so, but the bread itself at Doasis was really good!

Oddly enough, the top floor of Doasis is being set up as a space for small weddings!! It looks like it could work as a party room too!

Will there be bread left at Doasis on a weekend afternoon?

When we visited Doasis after lunch on a weekend, a lot of the bread was already gone. They do bring out more, but if you want to pick from a wide variety, I recommend going early on weekends! Especially if you're a group or want to choose bread to take away, an early visit is better!

I even ate the leftovers at home the next day and they were still delicious! Next time I'm thinking of trying the sausage bread or the brunch!

Honest review of 4 breads at Doasis

The breads we tried at Doasis were the white roll, green tea injeolmi (green tea with chewy rice cake), cream cheese mochi squid ink crunch, and pandoro. Instead of my usual sausage bread or chocolate bread, I picked signature items, and this time the choice was a real success.

① White roll: packed with soft cream!

The Doasis white roll is a fluffy bread with plenty of cream, and I recommend eating it cold. I saw lots of people picking it from the display case and got curious, and now I get why it's popular.

First, the bread itself is really soft. It's fluffy and kind of melts in your mouth, and the cream inside is generous, so cream lovers will be happy. Honestly, if a cream bread has barely any cream you think, "What is this?" But the Doasis white roll is full of cream, which I loved. The combo of soft bread and rich cream was so appealing! The white roll was still good the next day and the day after. I recommend eating it cold!!!

② Green tea injeolmi: charming chewy texture

The Doasis green tea injeolmi has green tea inside, but what I remember is the chewy texture rather than the green tea flavor. You'd expect a strong, bitter green tea taste, but to my palate it was so mild I couldn't taste green tea at all.

Above all, I loved how chewy it was. It has a different charm from fluffy bread or cream-packed bread. It's worth a look for people who find very sweet or strongly green-tea-flavored desserts overwhelming. Also, the first bite is just the injeolmi, and the second bite has cream too, which made it even better!! If the white roll was about soft cream, the green tea injeolmi is the one I remember for its chew. Doasis seems to be generous with ingredients in general!!

③ Cream cheese mochi squid ink crunch: my number one!

The cream cheese mochi squid ink crunch was my favorite of everything I ate at Doasis this time, and because of the crunch you have to eat it the same day. The cream cheese inside is chewy like mochi, and the outside has that crisp crunch texture.

With the cream cheese flavor added, the texture feels different with every bite. I normally like sausage bread or chocolate bread, but this time this one was the tastiest. I'd want it again on my next visit. Just eat it on the day you buy it! If you eat it the next day, the crunch is gone (T_T)

④ Pandoro: I usually don't like it, but this one was good!

I'm not really a pandoro person, but I enjoyed the Doasis pandoro because it has plenty of cream. Remember when pandoro was all the rage? Pandoro is topped with a ton of powdered sugar, so it could be just sweet and not really to my taste.

But the Doasis pandoro was better than I expected. I liked that they give you plenty of cream. Doasis is good with cream, huh!

Doasis drink prices and taste

We ordered three drinks at Doasis: an Americano, a Hawaiian Oasis, and a black sesame latte. Whenever I order a latte-type drink, I always order an Americano too.

  • Americano ₩4,500 (printed as 4,5000 in the original)
  • Hawaiian Oasis ₩7,800
  • Black sesame latte ₩8,300

① Hawaiian Oasis: a sweet and tangy pick

The Hawaiian Oasis (₩7,800) was sweet and tangy with no syrupy taste, and personally my favorite Doasis drink. I first thought it might taste strongly of syrup or be too sweet, but it wasn't what I expected.

There's no syrup taste at all, just a sweet-and-sour flavor, so I'd recommend it to people who like refreshing drinks! To me it even had a faint tomato-like taste, and the mix of sweet and tangy was unique. I don't like tomato juice, but this had just a hint of it and was delicious!! If you prefer refreshing drinks over purely sweet ones, it's worth a try. I enjoyed it so much I'd probably order it again next time. On top of the drink there were 2 pieces of pineapple~!

② Americano: a basic pick that goes well with bread

I also ordered an Americano, which is a must when you're eating several kinds of bread. Coffee goes nicely with dessert-like breads such as the cream-rich white roll or the pandoro. Whenever I eat bread at a café I always drink an Americano, so if I order two other drinks, I definitely order an Americano too.

③ Black sesame latte: nutty, but on the sweet side

The Doasis black sesame latte (₩8,300) had plenty of black sesame sugar on top, and to my taste it was quite sweet. I'd ordered it expecting a nutty black sesame flavor, after all. If you usually like sweet lattes and dessert drinks it may be fine, but if you don't like very sweet drinks, keep that in mind.

New Doasis items I want to try next

The new items Doasis lists are cream cheese bread, six-clove garlic bread, pollock roe baguette, cream cheese mocha bun, and corn campagne. We visited on a weekend and not much bread was left, but these are the ones I definitely want to try next time.

  • Cream cheese bread
  • Six-clove garlic bread
  • Pollock roe baguette
  • Cream cheese mocha bun
  • Corn campagne

I'm especially curious about the cream cheese bread and the cream cheese mocha bun, and if you like salty flavors, the pollock roe baguette might catch your eye. They also sell salt bread and many other bakery items, so there are lots of options. I was satisfied even though I mostly stuck to signature items this time, so next time I want to try other breads and compare.

Dog-friendly café in Yangju: Doasis's 4th-floor dog playground

Doasis has a playground on the 4th floor where dogs can run around, so it's a good Yangju café to visit with your dog. When you go out with a dog, just finding a café you can go to together isn't easy, so having a space for dogs to run around is appealing.

Besides the regular café space for bread and drinks, there's a space to spend time with your dog, so you have more choices. However, the regular café floors (2nd and 3rd) and the area for dogs are separate, so if you visit with a dog, it's best to check in advance which floors you can enter and the rules. If you're planning an outing with your dog, put Doasis on your list when looking for a dog-friendly café in Yangju.

Verdict: would I go back to Doasis?

I'd like to go back to Doasis to try other breads. Since what we ate this time was already satisfying, I'm looking forward to the new items I haven't tried yet.
