In short

Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch is a gopchang (grilled beef small intestine) and makchang (grilled beef abomasum) restaurant in Anjirang Gopchang Alley, Nam-gu, Daegu. Two adults and one elementary-school child ordered two servings of egg gopchang, one serving of salt-grilled makchang and a bottle of soju for 50,000 won in total, and the spicy egg gopchang next to the mild salt-grilled makchang suited a family meal with a kid. The best part of Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch was that everything arrives fully cooked from the kitchen, so there is no grilling at the table.

Gopchang119 in Anjirang Gopchang Alley, Daegu: a family of three with a child

When you crave gopchang in Daegu, the first place that comes to mind is Anjirang Gopchang Alley. We visited Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch as a family of three, including an elementary-school kid.

Table setting with egg gopchang and salt-grilled makchang at Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch

We went there wanting to try the spicy egg gopchang, but thinking it might be too much for the kid, we added a serving of salt-grilled makchang to round things out — and long story short, that combo was a total stroke of genius, haha.

Where Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch is and where to park

Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch sits right inside Anjirang Gopchang Alley, so it's also an easy walk from Anjirang Station on Daegu Subway Line 1. We parked at the Anjirang Gopchang Street public parking lot, about a 5-minute walk to the restaurant, but the whole alley can get crowded on weekend evenings, so I'd recommend heading over a bit early.

With its black signboard and clean, modern vibe, it felt quite different from the gopchang restaurants I usually picture in Anjirang.

What does Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch look like inside?

Interior of Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch with cylindrical tables

Inside, there are cylindrical tables with fairly generous spacing between them, which made it a great fit for a family meal or a get-together with friends.

Even though it's a gopchang restaurant, the smell of oil wasn't overwhelming, which made a clean first impression,

and there was a separate self-serve bar where you could grab extra side dishes.

The side dishes that come with the meal

Basic table setting with perilla leaves, pickled radish, and garlic

Perilla leaves, pickled radish, garlic, chili peppers, ssamjang (dipping sauce), a few extra sauces, and a hot bean sprout soup all came out neatly arranged.

Hot bean sprout soup served alongside the meal

The hot bean sprout soup was great for cleansing the palate between bites of the seasoned gopchang, and the side dishes were geared toward lightly cutting through the richness of the gopchang without being overdone — just the right amount. And if you run out, you can always grab more from the self-serve bar, so no worries there.

How does the egg gopchang taste? Oak-smoked, spicy and clean

Egg gopchang from Gopchang119 laid over onions

Egg gopchang, unlike vegetable gopchang, is a dish where you get to enjoy a generous amount of the gopchang itself. There's onion laid underneath, but the egg gopchang is clearly the star.

There's a subtle smoky oak-wood aroma, and the sauce is spicy without being harsh.

In particular, there was almost no gamey smell at all, so even people who don't eat gopchang often could enjoy it comfortably.

Dipping it in the mayonnaise sauce softens the spiciness considerably,

and pairing it with perilla leaf and pickled radish cleans up the aftertaste.

Wrapping it up with the special garlic sauce on top is another combo I'd totally recommend!

Going with a kid? Order the salt-grilled makchang too

If you're visiting with a kid, I'd recommend not ordering just the spicy egg gopchang — definitely get the salt-grilled makchang alongside it too.

The seasoning isn't strong, so it's easy to alternate between it and the egg gopchang, and you get to compare the distinct savory flavor and chewy texture of makchang along the way. Above all, whether it's some secret seasoning or not, the salt-grilled makchang's savoriness held up all the way to the last bite.

A plate of mild salt-grilled makchang

Both the gopchang and the makchang come fully cooked straight from the kitchen, so you don't have to worry about grilling time or doneness — that was more convenient than I expected, and genuinely nice.

If it cools down, you can reheat it right at the table on the burner too.

Reheating gopchang on the table burner

Since egg gopchang is a spicy dish that's great as a drinking snack, if you're visiting with a kid who's sensitive to spice, I'd recommend also ordering a milder menu item like salt-grilled makchang or fried rice.

Is Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch worth it? Final verdict

  • Chewy, savory egg gopchang full of smoky oak-wood flavor
  • The convenience of everything coming fully cooked from the kitchen — no grilling needed
  • A well-balanced combo of spicy egg gopchang and mild salt-grilled makchang
  • Three servings that were just right for 2 adults plus 1 elementary-school kid
  • Works for family outings, gatherings with friends, or a casual round of drinks

Next time, I'd like to try the egg gopchang and vegetable gopchang together, plus add the snow cheese fried rice. If you want to skip the hassle of grilling yourself and just enjoy gopchang and makchang with that great smoky flavor, be sure to check out Gopchang119, a gopchang spot in Anjirang, Daegu! 🔥
