Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch is a charcoal-grill Iberico and Korean pork BBQ restaurant on Yangji-ro 184beon-gil in Sosa-gu, Bucheon, Gyeonggi. A half platter of mixed cuts (500g) with perilla oil makguksu (buckwheat noodles), a 500ml Pepsi and a bowl of rice came to about 59,000 won for two, and spicy soft tofu stew plus hutgae (Korean raisin tree) tea came free. The chewy Iberico rib meat and the sweet, nutty perilla oil noodles to finish were the highlights at Dwaeji Gongbang.

Gangneung mulhoe restaurant that isn't too sour: Yeonhwa Maeul

Yeonhwa Maeul Kkomak Bibimbap is a Korean restaurant on Punghori in Gangdong-myeon, Gangneung, specialising in kkomak bibimbap (cockle rice bowl) and mulhoe (cold raw fish soup). For lunch on the first day of a couple's Gangneung trip, they ordered the two-person set (₩48,000) with a medium cockle bibimbap and one serving of assorted mulhoe, plus a 500ml cola, and it arrived with lotus leaf tea, warm seaweed soup and refillable side dishes. Even a diner who avoids sharply sour mulhoe was won over by the sweet, tangy and spicy balance at Yeonhwa Maeul.
