Day one of the Gangneung trip with my husband Kkrongmon! We were trying to decide where to go, and I said, shall we try cockle bibimbap? This time I picked the place haha. The result? Success!

Honestly, Eomjine Kkomak had been the legendary cockle bibimbap of my life, but after eating here, that memory got a bit erased (???)

Gangneung's Yeonhwa Maeul cockle bibimbap and mulhoe are delicious haha. The dishes are really well-balanced and both the staff and the owner were kind (by my standards) ^^ Shall we go through the Gangneung cockle bibimbap review together?

Where Yeonhwa Maeul is on Punghori in Gangdong-myeon, and parking

Yeonhwa Maeul Kkomak Bibimbap is on Punghori in Gangdong-myeon, Gangneung, and there's a large dedicated parking lot in front of the store. When you get there, this signboard greets you. It's even better because it's near the accommodations. This seems to be the closest cockle bibimbap place around here ^^ (by distance too)

What comes with the ₩48,000 two-person set

We ordered the 2-person set plus a 500ml cola. You can tell just by looking that the place is spacious, right? Not floor seating — it's table seating

The 2-person set is a medium cockle bibimbap plus one serving of assorted mulhoe, this combo plus delicious side dishes, for ₩48,000!

After eating it, it really was great >_< the price, the taste, the portion

The cola wasn't a can either, it was a 500ml bottle, which made it even better >_<

They also served lotus leaf tea, which was so nice. It's warm lotus leaf tea served in a hygienic cup. There's even a wireless charger

Warm seaweed soup is also provided (this part is so, so nice +_+)

Is the assorted mulhoe okay if you dislike sour mulhoe?

I don't really like mulhoe that much, you know?

(because it's too sour) (I don't hate it though) But here the balance is spot-on — slightly sour, sweet, and spicy — it was addictive +_+

A cockle bibimbap powerful enough to make me forget Eomjine!

It seems to be a different secret sauce from Eomjine's, but it's spicy-sweet and savory

And there are really so many cockles in it!

This is another charm point ^^ I'd definitely come back here for the cockle bibimbap. And the mulhoe too

A table full of food. Especially the side dishes were all so delicious that I ended up getting refills. Banchan really matters when eating out +_+ haha, check the video too

Wrapped in perilla leaves and dried seaweed, it's so good, right? ^^ Both the perilla leaves and the seaweed are refillable

Being able to pile on a generous helping of cockles made me really happy ^^

For this whole spread at ₩48,000 total (for 2), isn't that pretty good?

I also added some salted squid jeotgal on top

The side dishes are refillable too. Not self-serve — the staff bring them to you (when they're too busy, you can help yourself haha)

Best time to visit Yeonhwa Maeul and its closing day

Yeonhwa Maeul Kkomak Bibimbap is closed every Monday, and during lunch hours, seats fill up after 1pm. We went around 12:30, and it was quiet, but by around 1:30 when I looked around, the place was packed (a customer-magnet, that's me haha). Truly, if a place is delicious, people find their way there somehow ^^ (promotion matters too)

If you're looking for a great cockle bibimbap spot besides Eomjine Kkomak, in Gangneung, this one is really good too (and the price is good too). Thanks for the meal ^^
