Suji soup restaurant: post-workout bone soup, ₩2,000 drinks | Yeonnal
In short
Yeonnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Suji-gu Office Station Branch is a sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) and bone hangover soup restaurant on the ground floor of an alley building across from the Women's Center near Suji-gu Office Station in Yongin, Gyeonggi. After a workout and returning books to Suji Library, the writer met family there and shared bone haejangguk (12,000 won) and a large pork gukbap; the meat slid right off the bone and the broth was pleasantly spicy. Post-workout bone soup at Yeonnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk near Suji-gu Office Station
I went to Yeonnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk (옛날경성순대국) in Suji-gu Office Station and had sundaeguk and bone hangover soup. It was one of those days when I had zero energy after working out... When I have no appetite, sundaeguk and gamjatang (pork bone stew) are my soul food, no question.. When I'm wondering what to eat out, I always end up with the same answer, haha.
This branch is also near Suji Library, where I go often, so I end up here a lot. That day I returned my books at the library, and when mealtime came I met my family for lunch.
First anniversary promotion: 2,000 won drinks at Yeonnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk
The restaurant is running a ₩2,000 drink promotion for its first anniversary. For anyone who likes a drink with their sundaeguk, it's the best. Two thousand won! I miss the old soju prices, haha.

There's a new menu item too, spicy sundaeguk?? Oh, I haven't tried it yet, but people who like spicy food should give it a go. Prices have gone up a little since the early days, but that's just inflation, so oh well, haha.

Why choose Yeonnal Gyeongseong over other sundaeguk restaurants near Suji-gu Office?
The interior is clean and tables turn over fast, so the food comes out quickly. There seem to be two famous sundaeguk places near Suji-gu Office, no questions asked, and one of them is right across the street.. The portions are big, but so is the crowd, and the place feels rather old.. haha. When I don't have the energy to go across the street, or when I'm on the Suji Library side, I always go to Yeonnal Gyeongseong.
Even when it's fairly busy, I've never been unable to get a seat, and I like that the self-serve bar lets you grab extra fresh chili peppers, onions and more. I hadn't been in a month or two and the staff seemed to have changed, but they were friendly, haha.

What we ordered: 12,000 won bone hangover soup and a large pork gukbap
That day we ordered one bone hangover soup (₩12,000) and a large pork gukbap (rice soup). On a really hungry day, you go for the large with loads of meat! My family was hungry and ordered the large pork gukbap, and I got the bone hangover soup.
The suyuk (boiled pork slices) and side dishes for drinking look tempting too, so next time I'll have a drink with the head meat suyuk.

A Pororo kids' drink and crunchy kkakdugi (radish kimchi)
I wanted something sweet to drink too.. so even though I'm not a kid, I ordered a Pororo drink, haha. When you're low on energy, a bite of crunchy kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) perks you up, and sipping the Pororo milk flavor tops up the sugar and wakes you up, kind of.
The kkakdugi here is crunchy and tasty. The regular kimchi is on the salty side. When you mix rice into the sundaeguk and slurp it down, the kimchi is great on top. I love kkakdugi so I refill it now and then. Not salty and wonderfully crunchy!

Yeonnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk location and takeout portions
The restaurant is in the alley across from the Women's Center, on the ground floor, so it's easy to get to. If you get takeout, they give you even more food.
Since I ordered the large that day, it felt as generous as a takeout order.. no, the earthenware bowl felt extra full that day. I was nearly stuffed just from the meat, haha. Together with the bone hangover soup, we split everything half and half with my family.

How does the bone hangover soup at Yeonnal Gyeongseong taste?
The bone hangover soup is piled with ugeoji (dried cabbage leaves) and perilla leaves, and it isn't very spicy, just pleasantly kick-y. The perilla leaves are stacked so high they look like they're growing out of the bowl. Loads of ugeoji, loads of perilla.

The bone hangover soup was nicely spicy, and it comes with ground perilla seeds already in, so the seasoning was just right. The meat is simmered really tender; when I lifted the bone with my chopsticks, the meat slid right off. I was too tired to even pick meat off bones that day, and this was so easy, haha. Thanks to that, I finished all the meat and the whole bowl.
The rice also comes packed into a full bowl. On a hungry day I'd quickly eat a bowl and a half of rice with this broth, but that day we got a large sundaeguk too, so I was full and left a little rice.

Is Yeonnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk kid-friendly? The 5,000 won kids' gukbap
This branch has a ₩5,000 kids' gukbap. It comes with seaweed and pork cutlet too, and for five thousand won that's a steal!! Parents bringing kids, take note~ It was a clean Suji sundaeguk place that's good with kids too.
Workout done~ and after a tiring day, I got my strength back with sundaeguk and bone hangover soup at Yeonnal Gyeongseong near Suji-gu Office!!
