Hanam Misa comic café, 2 hours with kids: tteokbokki combo, Real Toon

In short

Real Toon Comic Café (리얼툰만화카페) is a comic café and indoor play space on the 9th floor of a building on Misagangbyeonjungang-ro in Misa, Hanam, Gyeonggi. The writer spent 2 hours at Real Toon with two elementary-school kids before their after-school academy classes: Mario Kart in the Nintendo room, a lunch of the tteok-twi-sun set (tteokbokki, fried snacks and sundae) and Chapagetti, then the board games Halli Galli and chair stacking. With parking for up to 5 hours 30 minutes and strong air conditioning, Real Toon Comic Café made a good indoor spot for the summer break.

It's pay-after, so when you leave you pay for the time you actually used! I came with my two elementary-school kids, and I think it's a great option if you're looking for an indoor place to go over the summer break :)

On top of that, this Misa comic café has board games, comic books and even Nintendo, so it was a great place to hang out with the kids!

We came before the kids' academy classes today, so I planned on about 2 hours, but next time a 3-hour pass looks doable too!

We got lucky and a Nintendo room was still available, so we could pick it!

What are the Nintendo room and the other rooms like?

At Real Toon, the clock starts as soon as you choose a room! There are rooms on the 2nd level too, and they're cozier than I expected, so the atmosphere was really nice. The air conditioning was cold as well, so it's good for an indoor date near Misa Station too.

Cozy loft-style room in the comic café

The rooms that aren't the Nintendo room had tables and floor mats!

A basic drink is included in the base price, and you can choose from an Americano, peach iced tea, soda or bottled water! The Nintendo cartridges are kept at the counter, and you can borrow them by leaving a card or ID. Please have a card or ID ready in case one gets lost!

Quite a variety of cartridges, right? From Just Dance to Kirby Air Riders, Kirby Star Allies and Pokémon, there were lots of popular ones! We have a Nintendo at home, but there were many games we don't own, so the kids were really interested.

There are plenty of comics for adults, and lots of popular books kids love, like Heunhan Namnae (Ordinary Siblings)!

QR code ordering system

When you order your basic drink, Real Toon gives you an order slip printed with a QR code, and the link lets you order food and snacks too! You just order from your seat, so it's a convenient system.

They packed the basic drinks so they were easy to carry!

Our first game at Real Toon was Animal Crossing! But once I brought it back, it turned out to be a single-player game and the kids lost interest. So I swapped it for another game right away, haha.

Next up: Nintendo Mario Kart time! My eldest isn't great at games, so we took turns, and it was actually fun? Somehow it takes you back to being a kid, haha. We played so hard that suddenly it was lunchtime.

What board games do they have?

After ordering food, we played board games with the kids. They have lots of popular ones, like Modu-ui Marble (Korea's Monopoly-style game), Halli Galli, chair stacking, Jenga, Dalmuti, Bomb Passing and Skewer Master!

Boxes of the board games we picked

Here are today's hand-picked board games. I brought ones that are easy for kids to pick up, and it turns out everyone gets surprisingly competitive..?

From Halli Galli to chair stacking! We played so hard that the competitive spirit shot way up, haha. Playing somewhere other than home with a cold drink, even the elementary-school kids loved it.

Lunch: tteok-twi-sun set and jjapaguri

A KakaoTalk message came saying our food was ready, so it was lunch time! We ordered the tteok-twi-sun set and jjapaguri (black bean instant noodles), and the tteokbokki was a little spicy! It's a set with sundae (blood sausage) and fried snacks on top, so it was a hearty combination, haha.

Also, wet wipes are kept where the blankets and fans are, so you can grab some easily. There are blankets, belly and back heating pads, and even a book search terminal, so it was easy to look up and find the books I wanted.

Next up: comic book time! I've loved Yumi's Cells for ages, and reading it here felt fresh again. Forget the drama, there's a joy in reading the books, haha. The kids got their Heunhan Namnae time too, the only time I allow it!

Parking and wrapping up

We finished with ice cream, which made it a perfect day. The girls are already asking to come back to Real Toon... I asked, and parking is available for up to 5 hours 30 minutes. If you're wondering what to do with the kids during the long summer break, an all-day pass on a weekday with plenty of time sounds great too. Parking is easy, and you can relax under the cold air conditioning with Nintendo, board games and comics. Why not spend some time like that! We still have 2 weeks of vacation left, haha.
