The free miso soup, gamtae chawanmushi and kimchi

Once you order, Ilpum Yeouido Branch gives each person a miso soup, a chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), and kimchi.

Wow, this chawanmushi is genuinely delicious. The best steamed egg I've had anywhere so far. The gamtae (seasoned laver) on top makes it really nutty, the seasoning was spot on, and it was just so good. Is it even allowed to be this good?

If you sit at the bar seats, you can watch your sushi being made. Watching everyone else's sushi come together made me drool 🤤

Premium kaisendon, 37,000 won: what sashimi is on top?

The premium kaisendon (seafood rice bowl) is ₩37,000. True to its name, this bowl was packed with both volume and luxury 🍣✨ Tuna, salmon, white fish, shrimp, scallop, sea urchin, and salmon roe were all piled on generously — the visual alone was overwhelming!

The sashimi was cut especially thick, so every bite had a satisfying chew, and it was fresh across the board with no fishy taste.

A thick-cut piece of sashimi

There was so much seafood on top that it almost felt like more sashimi than rice — this is the dish to order when you want a proper kaisendon. Getting to try many different kinds of fish in small portions is also part of the charm of the premium kaisendon.

A spoonful topped with salmon roe and sea urchin

Eating the soft, fatty salmon and tuna together with the popping salmon roe and rich sea urchin, I got a whole range of flavors and textures in one mouthful 😋

It's also great wrapped in the seaweed that comes with it.

It's delicious plain or with the gamtae. Trying each bite different ways to find your favorite combination is half the fun. A real Yeouido kaisendon favorite.

Whole-eel unagidon, 40,000 won, and the tamagoyaki hidden inside

The whole unagidon (eel rice bowl) is ₩40,000. As the name says, a whole eel comes laid across the top. The moment it arrived, the visual alone was overwhelming! 😍

The eel had a glossy sheen, grilled to a nicely charred, springy surface while the inside stayed moist and tender — the contrast was incredible. The slightly sweet, salty sauce really brought out the eel's savory flavor.

The eel was especially thick and meaty, so each full bite delivered serious satisfaction.

A whole eel laid across the unagidon

The rice was genuinely delicious — good enough to eat on its own, but paired with the eel, it balances out the eel's richness perfectly, so you keep going back for more. Mixed in with a bit of scallion here and there, it added a fresh aroma that kept the dish from feeling too heavy.

A spoonful of unagidon with scallion

Since it's a whole eel on top, the portion is generous — any eel lover would applaud this dish without hesitation.

Thick eel meat over rice

Underneath the eel was a thick, hearty slice of tamagoyaki (rolled omelet) hiding out. The fluffy, soft tamagoyaki gently balanced out the eel's rich flavor in between bites, which made eating it even more fun. The eel alone is filling, but with a chunky tamagoyaki too, one bowl will leave you stuffed.

Plump eel + fluffy tamagoyaki + sauce-soaked rice combo 💛 There's no reason not to order the whole unagidon. A real Yeouido eel rice bowl favorite.

Gunkan sushi trio, 13,000 won: worth ordering even when full

The gunkan sushi trio is ₩13,000.

The additionally ordered gunkan sushi trio

I felt like I was about to burst, but it was too good to resist, so I ordered the gunkan trio for one more taste. I genuinely thought my stomach might explode — completely reckless, haha. Both the rice and the toppings were super generous, so it filled me up even more. But honestly, just looking at it, it already looked delicious.

Cold udon with karaage and mango coconut pudding to finish

With my stomach ready to burst, the cold udon karaage arrived as a palate cleanser. Cool and clean-tasting, it was great as a light finish.

Mango coconut pudding served for dessert

Mango coconut pudding. At this point I felt like I was being fattened up on purpose, but this really was the very last dessert. And it was so good 💛 You can't beat the mango and coconut combo — nutty and softly sweet, it made for a truly clean finish.
