Hongdae restaurant, phone-synced QR orders: Hôtel de Couture

My boyfriend and I hadn't had Western food in a while, so we wanted a nice, atmospheric meal and went looking for somewhere to go. Yeonnam-dong has so many good restaurants that I couldn't decide, but then I found out Hôtel de Couture (오뗄드꾸뜨) is a famous spot with a wait, even among foreign visitors! When we went, there were really a lot of foreign guests inside, and when we left the waiting line was packed.

I was happy with everything from the atmosphere to the food, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a Yeonnam-dong date restaurant, Yeonnam-dong pasta, or a Western restaurant near Hongik Univ. Station.

Where is Hôtel de Couture and what are its hours?

Hôtel de Couture is open daily 11:00–20:00, with last order at 19:00. It's about an 8-minute walk from Hongik Univ. Station, so it's easy to reach.

You get there quickly while wandering the Yeonnam-dong alleys, which makes it a nice date course too. 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ Climb the stairs and you'll find the European-style space of Hôtel de Couture.

What is the atmosphere like at Hôtel de Couture?

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the atmosphere. It felt like visiting a European family home! Of course I've never actually been inside a European home... haha. But it felt like one of those warm, cozy spaces from the movies.

The wood-tone interior and soft lighting made everything feel relaxed, and I felt like staying a long time over the meal.

There's also group seating near the entrance, so it looked good for gatherings with several people. The restroom is inside the restaurant, which was convenient, and the whole place was kept neat and clean.

How do you order at Hôtel de Couture? QR code ordering

You scan the QR code at the table you're shown to, using your phone, then view the menu and order. You don't need to call a staff member, which was convenient, and the ordering process was simple too.

What I found especially cool is that when you add a menu item or change your order, it syncs to your companion's phone too! You can browse and choose together, so it seems handy even for bigger groups. 😊

What's on the menu at Hôtel de Couture?

Besides pasta, they serve a range of Western dishes such as risotto, eggs in hell and steak. They also have French toast, so it looked like a good brunch spot too.

The next table ordered French toast and it looked so delicious that I definitely want to try it next time! But we came for dinner and were really hungry, so we ordered proper meal dishes. 😋

How does the honey bacon rosé pasta taste?

The first dish to arrive was the honey bacon rosé pasta, and the tomato and cream sauces were blended in a really good ratio. It kept the soft taste rosé pasta is known for without being too heavy, so I could enjoy it to the very end.

The thick bacon was the real highlight. It wasn't thin bacon but chewy, meaty bacon, so the texture with the pasta was even better haha. There was plenty of sauce too, so I enjoyed it until the last bite.

Jambon truffle cream risotto: fine if you dislike truffle?

Personally, the most memorable dish at Hôtel de Couture was the jambon (Korean-style ham) truffle cream risotto. My boyfriend doesn't really like truffle aroma, so I was a bit worried, but what do you know... he ate it with great gusto.

He scraped the plate clean, which surprised me so much that I asked him about it. He said the truffle scent isn't overpowering but soaks gently into the rice, which actually whets the appetite. When I tried it, the aroma wasn't overwhelming and felt refined.

The texture of the rice was especially good. Like risotto in Europe, you could feel each grain in your mouth, and it wasn't mushy but nicely firm, which made it even tastier. (I've never been to a European home, but on my trip to Italy I was that one person who only ate risotto...) The saltiness of the jambon, the softness of the cream sauce and the subtle truffle aroma went really well together.

Is the grilled bread a must-order?

The trick with the grilled bread is dipping it in the pasta and risotto sauce. You all know how you dip bread in leftover pasta or risotto sauce, right? 😆

The combo of smooth sauce and crispy bread was the best. It made me want to finish every last bit of sauce, and I almost wanted to order more bread.

Is Hôtel de Couture good for dates, blind dates and wedding invitation meetups?

The portions at Hôtel de Couture are really big, so the two of us left full and satisfied. Along with the taste, the European-style atmosphere made it a great place for a date.

I also thought it would suit a blind date or a wedding invitation get-together. Next time I have one in Hongdae, I might come here~ I'd recommend it if you want tasty Western food in a quiet, atmospheric space. 🤍
