Why I chose Geurine Oasis as the last stop of our Pocheon trip

Geurine Oasis is a big bakery café right in front of Gomori Reservoir in Pocheon. We had gone to Pocheon for a trip and didn't want to just head home, so we stopped here as our last stop. A cup of coffee on a trip is really precious, isn't it?

The moment we arrived, the wide open lake view caught my eye, and it was perfect for "water-gazing" (mulmeong, zoning out at the water). You can have a coffee in the big outdoor space while gazing at the water, and once the sun goes down you can do "fire-gazing" (bulmeong) too. There's even a space for dogs to run around, so it's a nice stop for a Pocheon day trip.

A café with a full view of Gomori Reservoir: how's the parking?

Gomori Reservoir stretches out right in front of Geurine Oasis, and there was plenty of parking, so it was easy to park. But it's famous as a photo spot, so on weekends, if the lot is full, you'll need to park at the nearby public parking lot and walk over.

On a nice day you just want to sit outside and look at the lake slowly. On trips you tend to rush around seeing this and that, but sitting down for a coffee and some water-gazing made all the travel fatigue melt away. The building also has an exotic feel that reminds you of southern Europe, so even the photos look like they were taken somewhere far away.

Geurine Oasis has tables in the outdoor area in front of the lake where you can do fire-gazing, and it costs ₩9,900 for 30 minutes! You can set a mood for under ₩10,000, which makes it extra special, doesn't it?

You can gaze at the lake, and when the sun goes down, sit in front of a warm fire. I think it would make a lovely little event for couples on a date. There's also an outdoor exercise yard where dogs can run around, so it's perfect when you're traveling with your pup.

Indoor seating split into a main hall and an annex

The indoor space at Geurine Oasis is split into a main hall where you can order and an annex with seating only. When the weather turns chilly, it's a good place to eat inside. The seats are nicely spaced apart too, so it was easy to chat. The tea set is so pretty, isn't it?

In-house baked goods: how do the scone and the new rusk taste?

I heard Geurine Oasis bakes its bread in the shop. From salt bread to scones, bagels and croissants, there was a wide range of breads that go well with coffee, so choosing was half the fun.

It's a big Pocheon bakery café, so skipping the bakery would be a shame, right? We'd had breakfast, but dessert has its own stomach, and I couldn't just walk past the bread. We picked a scone that I wanted and a roll that my second kid wanted, and both went well with coffee.

The rusk is a new menu item, and it was crunchy and sweet, so I kept reaching for more. The portion was generous too, and I kept picking at it in the car on the way home! When the new item comes out, definitely try the rusk~

Iced americano, café latte and the reusable cup you take home

At Geurine Oasis we ordered an iced americano and a hot café latte. The reusable cups the drinks come in can be taken home, I was told.

The coffee you drink on a trip stays in your memory along with the mood of the day, and it was so nice sipping coffee while slowly looking at the lake. Isn't the reusable cup pretty? You can use it in the shop or for takeout. Feels like getting a little travel souvenir, right? They say it's safe for hot coffee too. I brought mine home and I'm still using it steadily as my water cup.

Geurine Oasis is a good place to stop after walking around Gomori Reservoir or enjoying a Pocheon trip. You get a pretty lake view, tasty coffee and sweet bakery treats all together.
