A weekday-evening eel date in Seongsu: why Songnim Bok?
On a weekday evening, my wife and I went on a stamina-boosting date to Songnim Bok Jangeo Unlimited Freshwater Eel Seongsu Branch (송림복장어 민물장어 무한리필 성수직영점) in Seongsu. The weather has been so muggy lately that I felt my energy dropping, so we went for a proper restorative meal for the first time in a while.
We often go out on dates around Seongsu, and this time we timed it for a weekday evening and visited a restaurant that has been slowly gaining word of mouth among local residents as a Seongsu neighborhood favorite.

Today's place is Songnim Bok Jangeo Unlimited Freshwater Eel Seongsu Branch. Eel is usually pricey, so I never felt I could eat as much as I wanted, but then I heard that a Seongsu eel buffet serving good-quality freshwater eel had opened, and I just had to go. After work, my wife and I headed over hand in hand, chatting along the way.
Songnim Bok Jangeo Unlimited Freshwater Eel Seongsu Branch is open every day from 11:50 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Where is Songnim Bok Seongsu Branch?

Songnim Bok's Seongsu branch is at the end of Ttukdo Market, a short way into the alley from the Gentle Monster headquarters building, and it sits right on the street, so it's very easy to find. The alley has that Seongsu mix of quiet and lively. It opened on May 16, 2026, so it's a brand-new place, and the clean look of the signboard was the first thing I noticed.

You can get off at Seongsu Station and stroll over, enjoying the Seongsu alley scenery, or if it's too hot or cold, take a bus or taxi. Honestly, Seongsu has plenty of stylish cafés and fusion restaurants, but it's not easy to find a genuinely local-style place where you can eat until you're properly full.

So I was really glad that a place where you can eat this generously had opened.
Charcoal eel grill without the smoke? Inside Songnim Bok

The inside of Songnim Bok's Seongsu branch is plain and clean with no fussy decor, so it feels like a buffet restaurant where you can focus purely on eating and grilling. The moment we stepped in, the whole place gave a very tidy impression.

Stainless steel tables were lined up regularly under a white-toned ceiling, with a vent at every table. Smoke is a big worry when grilling eel or meat over charcoal, but the ventilation system was well laid out in a crossing pattern, so the meal was comfortable.

The tables aren't packed tightly either. There aren't a lot of seats, but there was enough room to sit comfortably and chat over dinner. It really had the feel of a typical Seongsu local spot, with neighborhood residents and nearby office workers coming in.
Songnim Bok eel buffet price and time limit

The buffet at Songnim Bok's Seongsu branch is ₩29,900 per adult and ₩14,000 for a child (elementary school age). On top of that, a basic table charge of ₩3,000 per person is added separately for adults, not children. Maybe because it's a directly operated branch run and managed by the head office, the overall system and menu felt very clear and neat.
Considering the quality of the eel, being able to eat unlimited amounts at this price felt like clearly the best value among Seongsu eel buffets.

For meals, there's hearty eel soup, galbitang (beef short rib soup), refreshing buckwheat noodles (memil guksu) and spicy ramyeon, so you can definitely finish the meal there too. For drinks, besides soju and beer, they stock a variety of distilled spirits that go with eel, as well as bokbunja wine.

They also sell takeout separately, and we were told the buffet time limit is 2 hours in total. To really enjoy the meal, we asked for the buffet for two.
The first spread and the free black raspberry wine

After we ordered and waited a little while, the first spread arrived along with neat side dishes.

One thing that stood out at Songnim Bok's Seongsu branch is that a bottle of bokbunja wine comes free as a basic service. We don't usually drink much, but the sweet, fragrant bokbunja wine was easy to sip, which was really nice.
Freshwater eel is rich and high in protein, so it can get heavy as you go, but a glass of this sweet, slightly bitter bokbunja wine wiped away the greasiness. It was an amazing pairing.

The first serving was three thick pieces of freshwater eel, with pork belly and chicken neck to grill alongside, and neat side dishes.
Charcoal heat and how self-service refills work
The charcoal fire that came in soon after was so powerful that the moment we put on the meat and eel, they started sizzling and turning golden.

With such strong heat, the waiting time isn't long and everything cooks quickly, so we could eat without any breaks.

After the first serving, you can freely take what you want from the self-service refill corner, which is a good setup. We also brought back the thick eel pieces that were neatly laid out.
How good is the eel at Songnim Bok's buffet?
What surprised me most at Songnim Bok's Seongsu branch was the remarkable quality of the freshwater eel.

With a buffet you usually picture thin-fleshed or fishy-smelling cheap ingredients, but Songnim Bok served only thick, fresh, high-quality eel, on par with restaurants that specialize in à la carte grilled eel. My wife and I were both in awe as we grilled, wondering how they could possibly make a profit serving eel of this quality without limit.

I dipped a crisp, golden piece of eel lightly in the special teriyaki sauce and topped it with shredded ginger, and also tried it with just a little salt. Savory juices and tender flesh burst in my mouth, crisp outside and moist inside, and I couldn't help smiling.
Grilling savory pork belly and chewy, tender chicken neck between the eel as a treat meant we never got tired of it and just kept eating.

My wife and I clinked our bokbunja glasses and finished the meal, very satisfied, down to the last piece of eel.
Is Songnim Bok Seongsu Branch worth going back to?
We were so happy with Songnim Bok's Seongsu branch that we're both 200% planning to come back. Talking on the way out, we agreed it felt less like the noise of a busy main street and more like tasting truly good, substantial food in a cozy, friendly alley.
For eel lovers like us, it's just overwhelming that such a gem of a local place has appeared in a Seongsu alley. With the generous portions, friendly service and excellent quality of the raw eel, I think we'll keep coming back without a second thought whenever we need a boost or crave eel.
If you're looking for properly grilled eel near Seongsu or a good-value spot for a group, I strongly recommend visiting Songnim Bok Jangeo Unlimited Freshwater Eel Seongsu Branch.
