Sokcho couple-trip café: sweet corn salt bread at Cafe Neorae

In short

Cafe Neorae (카페너래) is a large café in Sokcho's Sundubu Village (soft tofu village), Gangwon, where floor-to-ceiling windows look out on Ulsanbawi Rock. On a weekend afternoon during a 2-day, 1-night couple trip to Sokcho, the writer ordered the sweet corn salt bread, a sweet corn latte and the signature Neorae Latte, then took in the Ulsanbawi view from the window seats and the rooftop. Her boyfriend loved Cafe Neorae's sweet corn salt bread so much that he made the café a must-stop for their next Sokcho trip.

Today I'm introducing Cafe Neorae (카페너래), a café in Sokcho with Ulsanbawi rock right in view :) Since it was a 2-day, 1-night trip, I figured we'd only fit in one café in Sokcho, so I researched carefully and found this place. We went for the view, and it turned out to be a salt bread paradise too?! This is my honest review of the sweet corn salt bread and sweet corn latte that made my boyfriend fall in love at first bite. Let's take a look!

Where is Cafe Neorae, and is it crowded on weekend afternoons?

Cafe Neorae is in Sokcho's Sundubu (soft tofu) Village and close to Sokcho IC, so it works well for the first or last day of a trip. We planned lunch in the village and then headed to Cafe Neorae. It was a weekend afternoon, so there were lots of customers, but the inside is bigger than I expected, so it never felt too packed. I thought it would be a nice place to relax on a weekend.

What did we order from the bakery at Cafe Neorae?

We picked just one bread, the sweet corn salt bread, and ordered a sweet corn latte and a Neorae Latte. The moment you walk in you see all kinds of baked goods, and two caught my eye: the sweet corn salt bread and a bread with biji (soybean pulp) cream, if I remember right? We'd had a big lunch, so we agreed on just one bread here, and in the end we chose the sweet corn salt bread. My boyfriend already likes sweet corn desserts, so we got the sweet corn latte as our drink too.

If you want signature menu items made with tofu and biji, Cafe Neorae is the place. They were also running an event: leave a receipt review and get a free Neorae signature cream, so if you're curious, join in and get one! Oh, and "neorae" in the name means a wide, big rock, and it's apparently inspired by Ulsanbawi. We didn't go up to Ulsanbawi itself, but we were happy to enjoy it as a view.

Is Cafe Neorae okay with babies and strollers?

Next to the order counter there were a microwave, a self-packing counter and baby chairs. I noticed them right after getting our buzzer. You move around by the building's elevator, so strollers and wheelchairs looked like they'd have no trouble.

While waiting, I spotted a prettily decorated corner right next to us that looked like a photo zone, so we took a shot there too. When I go to a café I always want a photo like this, and this Sokcho café happened to have a nice spot ready ❣️

The Ulsanbawi view from the window seats at Cafe Neorae

The floor-to-ceiling windows upstairs show Ulsanbawi and quiet rows of houses. We carried our order upstairs and sat at a window seat with footrests, and the view was seriously amazing! The window seats looked especially popular, so we were lucky.

What does the signature Neorae Latte taste like?

The Neorae Latte is Cafe Neorae's signature latte, a nutty latte topped with Neorae cream. If you like nutty grain lattes, I think you'll love it. I was completely satisfied! It also tasted like something older folks would enjoy. It's a bit like black sesame, yet the coffee flavor still comes through in harmony.

The sweet corn salt bread my boyfriend fell for

The sweet corn salt bread at Cafe Neorae fun to eat, with corn kernels you can bite into one by one, and it's packed with corn cream. Amazingly, the cream isn't greasy at all, just nicely sweet and delicious. My boyfriend kept singing that he wanted to stop by on the day we headed home and take some to go. We'll definitely have to make it a must-stop on our next Sokcho trip.

I zoomed in toward the window to show you the Ulsanbawi view too, and it looks different like this. My mom once told me I had to visit Ulsanbawi at least once, but I'm leaving satisfied with the view 😁 Cafe Neorae lets you enjoy tasty coffee and the Ulsanbawi view together.

Does Cafe Neorae have rooftop seating?

At the very top of Cafe Neorae there's a rooftop with table seats. While we were eating, a few customers headed upstairs, so I wondered what was up there and followed, and there was a rooftop! On a nice day it would be great to eat up on the roof. It feels open, and it's a good spot for the photo of a lifetime here too.

So finally I took a photo of my boyfriend too. He said the view was so pretty but he was sorry he hadn't dressed up today. To me he just looked cute, but I should have given him a hint that we were going to a café with a great view.

I'd recommend Cafe Neorae in Sokcho as a large café where you can see Ulsanbawi too. Do try the signature menu!
