Why I recommend Something About Coffee as a bakery café near Gangnam Station
Something About Coffee is a bakery café near Gangnam Station with a big three-floor space and a generous terrace. If you're looking for a bakery café around Gangnam Station, this is one I can really recommend. For a start, it's only about 300 meters on foot from Sinnonhyeon Station, so it's easy to reach. The three floors make it spacious, and the indoor area is nice, but the terrace is roomy too, so unless it's the dead of summer or winter, it's a great spot to enjoy a relaxed time outside. The range of baked goods also matches the size of the place, which made choosing a real pleasure.

What are the interior and weekend atmosphere like?
The inside is done in white tones with halogen lighting, which felt clean and stylish. I went on a Saturday, and, as you'd expect from a popular Gangnam Station café, it was very busy. Even so, the tables are spaced fairly wide apart, so the layout didn't make it awkward to chat.
Maybe because the mood and menu are built to win over women, the customers were overwhelmingly female. It's a perfect place to have a sweet dessert break with your partner after a meal around Gangnam Station.

Cakes and baked sweets on offer
The desserts at Something About Coffee are wonderfully varied, from fruit cakes to cheesecakes and baked goods. There are refreshing fruit-based ones like a peach cake, a lemon gâteau and a mango cake. Then there are cheesecakes, chodang corn (super-sweet corn) and chocolate-based cakes too, so many choices that I honestly struggled to decide.
The baked goods include egg cookies, blueberry crumble and scones, so many kinds that I spent a good while just browsing. The cakes and desserts are all beautifully made, and the joy of feasting with my eyes first was big.
Considering the Gangnam Station location, ₩6,500 for an americano didn't feel too steep, and the desserts seemed reasonably priced too.

How the matcha cream cold brew and iced americano taste
I ordered the matcha cream cold brew (₩7,500), one of the café's signature drinks, and an iced americano (₩6,500). Matcha and coffee was an unfamiliar pairing, but the two blended with no awkwardness at all, and the matcha flavor held its own against the coffee for a smooth taste. Think of it as something like a matcha latte. The americano had a nutty, roasty note that anyone can enjoy, with no real hit-or-miss. What impressed me about both drinks was how clean they tasted.

How the lemon yogurt gâteau and yellow cheese cream cheese cookie taste
What impressed me most at Something About Coffee was how well the desserts bring out their main ingredient. The lemon yogurt gâteau (₩9,800) lived up to its name, overflowing with yogurt and lemon aroma and flavor. The cream had a soft texture that I'm sure came from real dairy cream, and it balanced everything so well that the cake stayed rich without ever getting cloying.
The yellow cheese cream cheese cookie (₩6,300) was just as good: the deep, nutty flavor of the yellow cheese (a Korean cheese-powder flavor) with cream cheese was thick and chewy, and the savory taste lingered in my mouth. Alternating between the tangy cake and the savory cookie, before I knew it the plate was completely clean.

How was the terrace during the rainy season?
The day I visited was smack in the middle of the rainy season (jangma), pretty humid and hot. But I was thoroughly sick of air conditioning, so the terrace, where I could soak up the smell of summer outdoors, felt atmospheric and wonderful. If you want a sweet afternoon break from the busy Gangnam Station streets, Something About Coffee is the place. Honestly, there's no reason not to go. I very much want to come back. The end.
