Jungang Station, Ansan hair salon: uneven back hair fixed at Wiro

Why I chose Wiro in Gojan-dong

It was time for my boyfriend's haircut, so I searched for a place that's good with men's hair and booked Wiro (위로), a hair salon in Gojan-dong.

Where is Wiro, and what is it like inside?

Wiro was opened by a designer with more than 10 years of experience. It's a 5-minute walk from Jungang Station Exit 2, on the first floor of the building that houses Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine.

The inside is long and narrow with 3 seats, and a waiting area behind them. I liked that I could lean back and wait comfortably while my boyfriend had his hair done.

Before: back hair with uneven sides

Let's start with the before photo, which shows right away what was disappointing about the cut from his previous salon. The back hair is clearly different lengths on the two sides. Of course hair grows over time, but his hair has never grown out uneven before, so the only explanation is that it was cut at different lengths 😫

Anyway! The plan was to cut this all-over-the-place hair neatly, then use a down perm (a perm that flattens puffy hair) all over to press the puffy parts down into a tidy style.

Why was part of the old perm kept?

Cutting off all of his previous perm would have made the front too short, so we kept some of the old perm length and decided to do a full perm together the next time he visits Wiro in Gojan-dong.

While waiting, I had snacks and iced tea, and I liked that the seats had chargers too.

How the men's down perm went at Wiro

Once my boyfriend's hair had been tidied up a bit,

the down perm started with the back hair. Wiro is a one-designer salon, so the designer handles the overall work, but it seemed an intern helped now and then with the shampoo, blow-drying and down perm to save time.

Men's down perm: sides only, or the back too?

A men's down perm is split into the sides and the back. If the hair puffs up all over, I'd recommend both; if only the sides puff up, just do the sides. My boyfriend's hair isn't straight but a bit curly, so whenever it grows out it always flares out at the sides. That's why he gets a down perm every time he gets a regular cut. But a perm solution that's too strong can make the skin red, so I'd recommend trying several salons and settling on one whose perm solution suits you.

After the down perm solution is applied all over,

they run a heat machine. Wiro near Jungang Station does women's hair as well as men's, so it's also a good place for a couple to get their hair done together.

Shampoo station with a massage machine, plus an acupressure scalp massage

There are 2 shampoo stations at the back of Wiro, and one has a massage machine, so you can use it while getting your shampoo. They also gave an acupressure massage during the shampoo, and my boyfriend insisted I write that it felt amazing haha

After everything was done, they dried the whole head and tidied the flyaways once more.

So! Here's the neat after look. Even though we didn't perm the front, the old perm is still there, so you can see it curving, and if you dry the hair downward you can style it however you like, such as a straight, covered-forehead look.

This is the after of the men's cut + down perm from Wiro in Jungangdong, Ansan. I think I'm a total short-hair type haha. A clean impression is the best, isn't it! hehe

If you use the underground parking in Wiro's building, up to 3 hours are covered, so it's easy to park and visit.
