Why I walked into Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2: a roulette win out front
Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 (간빠맥주 광안2호점) is a Gwangalli bar where staff out front let passersby spin a roulette, and winners get a free snack. I was looking for somewhere to have a quick drink in Gwangalli when I found Ganppa Beer 🍺 As I walked by, the staff, full of energy, told me to give the roulette a spin. I did it on a whim and, can you believe it, I won fried chicken wings?!
Getting a free snack is how I ended up walking into Ganppa Beer on a whim.

What is Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 like? A standing bar with no chairs

Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 is a standing bar with no chairs to sit on. Something a little unusual once I got inside: there's really no seating at all!

It's a place where you stand and have a quick beer, and the staff's energy was something you could feel all over the room. Everyone was working with such enthusiasm that the lively atmosphere hit me the moment I walked in.

Ganppa Beer menu: only two draft beers, Ebisu and Sapporo
Looking over the menu at Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2, the only drinks sold were Ebisu draft and Sapporo draft.

As a soju person, that was a little disappointing, but it also made me curious: how good must the beer be if beer is all they sell? We ordered the house tebasaki (fried chicken wings) 3P and the 2-glass Sapporo draft set.
How does the Sapporo draft taste at Ganppa Beer?

The Sapporo draft at Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 had creamy foam and a smooth finish. The Sapporo came out first 🍻 and the creamy foam on top of the glass was impressive.
I took a sip right away and it went down smoothly. It tasted like the Sapporo draft I'd had in Japan. That classic beer chill plus the soft foam made it go down so easily! The atmosphere was great and the beer was delicious, so I was in a great mood!!
Roulette prize fried chicken skin: a surprisingly big portion

The roulette snack was fried chicken skin with some meat still attached, and the portion was generous for a freebie. While I was drinking my beer, the fried chicken skin came out first. I'd honestly forgotten for a moment that it was the roulette snack and thought it was something we'd ordered?! Then I saw our tebasaki arrive separately and it finally clicked that this was the free one!!

For a freebie, the portion was pretty generous.
Normally I'm not a fan of fried chicken skin because of its soft, squishy texture and greasiness. But the chicken skin at Ganppa Beer was a little different from what you'd usually expect.
It wasn't just skin; there was meat attached too, so it felt like eating fried chicken. Salty and crispy, it was a real beer thief! Even I, who normally don't like fried chicken skin, enjoyed it. With the free snack already this good, I was in a great mood from the start ☺️
Ganppa Special Tebasaki 3P: sweet-and-salty chicken wings

The house tebasaki 3P (3 pieces of fried chicken wings) came with cabbage, coated in a sweet-and-salty sauce that went well with beer. While I was busy working through the chicken skin, the tebasaki we ordered finally arrived. The wings were hot and crispy, brushed with a sweet-and-salty sauce. That salty-sweet flavor paired really well with the beer.

The chicken skin was good, and with the tebasaki on top, we had no worries about snacks. Biting into a crispy wing and then taking a sip of cold beer left my mouth feeling clean! The beer just keeps going down. If you're looking for a snack that goes with beer in Gwangalli, I'd recommend the tebasaki too.
Staff and crowd at Ganppa Beer: good for drinking solo?

At Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2, the staff start small talk with customers in a lively atmosphere, and I saw plenty of solo drinkers and foreign guests. It wasn't only the snacks I liked about Ganppa Beer. The mood was just right: lively and fun, but not too much.

It was impressive how much fun the staff seemed to be having, and every so often they naturally struck up conversation with customers at the tables. We were first-time visitors, but they made a bit of small talk with us, which felt friendly and fun. Looking around, there were people who'd come alone and some foreign guests too.

It was also nice to see guests of all ages enjoying their beer comfortably. Getting swept up in the mood, we had a few more glasses, and then the snacks at the next table caught my eye. In the end, we ordered more too, haha.

Ganppa Special Cucumber Addiction, ordered when we were already full
The house cucumber addiction (오이중독) is a light snack of cucumber stacked like a tower, drizzled with a moderately spicy sauce. We were already fairly full from the other snacks, but the cucumber's crunch and the spicy sauce made my mouth feel fresh again.
It's a light side rather than a heavy snack, so it works well even when you're full. I think having a variety of simple snacks like this is another plus for Ganppa Beer.
Why Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 is a good second-round bar in Gwangalli

Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 is a good fit for round two in Gwangalli: you drink lightly on your feet, then move on to the next place. We only went in on a whim after winning the roulette while passing by, but the beer was better than I expected and the snacks were satisfying.

I especially loved the combination of the smooth Sapporo draft, the crispy fried chicken skin and the sweet-and-salty tebasaki. The staff's lively energy made the place feel even more fun too.

By the time we finished and left, a waiting line had formed. It must already be a popular spot. I was glad we got in right away without waiting.
Since you drink standing with no chairs, it's better for a quick drink before heading elsewhere than for sitting a long time. It seems good if you're looking for a round-two bar in Gwangalli, or if you're full after a meal but still want a beer. I'd also recommend Ganppa Beer Gwangalli 2 to anyone who wants to drink comfortably on their own 🍺
