Gongdeok lunch for two: yukhoe bibimbap and crispy-rice pork, Horangi
In short
Horangi Gotgan Gongdeok Branch is a Korean rice bowl and bibimbap restaurant a 5-minute walk from Exit 4 of Gongdeok Station in Mapo, Seoul. On a weekday lunch with a friend, the order was yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl) and a flame-grilled pork bowl with nurungji sweet and sour pork (crispy scorched rice batter) on the side, and with most dishes around 10,000 won, sharing two mains between two people costs little. Lunchtime brings a wait at Horangi Gotgan, so arriving slightly off peak makes the meal easier.

True to its reputation as a lunch spot for Gongdeok office workers, there were tons of people there for a meal, and we also had a solid, filling Korean lunch.

Horangi Gotgan Gongdeok Branch is a great spot near Gongdeok Station for a simple but filling Korean meal! Being about a 5-minute walk from Exit 4, it's also a popular place among office workers~

How long is the lunchtime wait at Horangi Gotgan near Gongdeok Station?
Horangi Gotgan Gongdeok Branch is on the 1st floor, so it wasn't hard to find, and when we visited at lunchtime there were quite a few customers waiting. Lunch hours especially get crowded, so if you want a relaxed meal, it might be good to avoid peak time a little!

Overall the vibe was comfortable enough for a lunch with a friend, and I also saw people dining solo there.
🥩 Yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl) 🔥 Grilled pork bowl 🥢 Nurungji sweet and sour pork
Yukhoe bibimbap: the raw beef bowl people order most

The first dish we ordered was yukhoe bibimbap! It had raw beef and various toppings on top, so mixing it all together made for a filling one-bowl meal haha. I'd heard yukhoe bibimbap is one of Horangi Gotgan's popular menu items, so I was curious, and it really did feel like the perfect lunch pick at this Gongdeok Korean lunch spot.
Mixing the rice and toppings evenly gave it that hearty Korean-food feeling, and if you like raw beef, this is a safe bet you'll enjoy!! The portion was really generous too, so big recommend 👍👍
Flame-grilled pork bowl: spicy pork mixed through the rice

Second was the grilled pork bowl! As the name suggests, the pork is cooked over direct flame, so I ordered it expecting that smoky flavor, and it turned out to be a spicy pork-over-rice style dish that goes great with the rice 🥴

Pork really does taste best eaten with rice, so I kept spooning bits onto my rice and it disappeared fast 😂 It's a great dish for anyone wanting a hearty lunch!!! If you're craving something a bit bold, I'd recommend the grilled pork bowl!
Nurungji sweet and sour pork: the side two people can share

Lastly, we ordered nurungji sweet and sour pork as a side dish! Fitting for a Gongdeok Korean restaurant, they had a nurungji (crispy scorched rice) version of sweet and sour pork?! The portion is also just right for a side dish.

It's not just plain sweet and sour pork — the nurungji adds a crispy, nutty texture that's the highlight haha. It was great to add on when just a rice bowl or bibimbap felt like it wasn't quite enough, and good to share with a friend too — she said it was crispy and delicious~

You can see how thick and meaty the inside is, right? haha If just the rice dishes feel a bit lacking, ordering the nurungji sweet and sour pork alongside really rounds out the combo 👍🏻❤️
