On the outer wall, a big blue "GEEK hair studios." logo catches the eye. There's also an English "GEEK" sign higher up on the building, so it's easy to spot from far away. The mix of white brick and blue feels clean yet hip, and the exterior alone told me this was a stylish Wangsimni hair salon! 💙

The entrance door is made of silver metal, so it felt like walking into a spaceship or a futuristic space. 🚀 The door glass also has stickers saying the shop accepts the Livelihood Recovery consumption coupon and the high oil price relief payment. The opening hours sign was unusual too! ⭐ HELLO AM 10:00 (open) ⭐ BYE PM 20:00 (close). Using HELLO and BYE instead of the usual OPEN and CLOSE gave it an even hipper, wittier feel! 💙

When you first walk in, you self check-in at a tablet PC kiosk. Under the English word GEEK, enter your name and phone number for your reservation, and a notification pops up at the counter.

Here you can see the guest waiting seats, the locker room, the coat hangers and a sofa. Wired chargers for your phone are provided.

On one side of the shop there's a locker room and coat hangers where customers can store their belongings. Shelves on the wall display anime figures such as One Piece's Shanks and Hunter×Hunter's Gon, along with cute dolls, creating a hip, characterful mood. 😎 On another side there are One Piece manga, tissues, a TV and a blue sofa, so you can pass the time comfortably while waiting for your treatment. The stylish, unusual interior, so different from an ordinary salon, was impressive! 💙

Step inside and a spacious, tidy hair treatment area opens up near the entrance. Silver metal interior and large mirrors come together for a hip, futuristic mood. 😎 The treatment chairs have black cushions on the back and seat, with the rest of the frame in metal. Shelves beside the mirrors hold hair products and tools, and hair dryers and flat irons hang below the chairs for easy use. It felt like walking into a trendy hair studio, and I loved the look of it! 💙

Perm area for iron perms and other heat perms

Further inside, Geek Hair Wangsimni has a separate area for heat perms such as the iron perm. Heat perm equipment hangs from the ceiling, with black chairs and a long metal table below. White brick and silver metal come together for a clean yet hip mood. I also liked that the space is set up so you can sit comfortably during a Wangsimni men's iron perm! 💈 Cushions you can hug during treatment are gathered on one side.

Front counter and self-serve drinks bar

Across from the perm area is a neat silver metal counter. Photo-booth strips of the staff together are stuck on it, giving off a warm team spirit. 📸 Inside is a work monitor; at the front are the card terminal and a note about 10% points, and beside it a black sponge for brushing off stray hair after a cut. Geek Hair Wangsimni has another spacious, tidy treatment area further inside. Like the front one, it pairs silver metal interior, large mirrors and black cushioned chairs. Each station has hair products, a dryer and other tools ready, and mirrors divide the space, which makes it feel even more organized. With the white brick and soft lighting, it had a hip yet refined Wangsimni salon mood! 💈

The back door is also made of silver metal, with a clean, futuristic feel. A long, narrow window runs down the middle, and the hours read HELLO AM 10:00 (open) / BYE PM 20:00 (close). A blue GEEK hair studios. sign hangs above the back door too, as hip and stylish as the front! 💙

How does a men's iron perm work, step by step?

The iron perm at Geek Hair Wangsimni goes in this order: consultation → cut → softening → rinse → iron work → neutralizing → shampoo → styling. Now I sat down in the chair for the iron perm. Below is the Before photo, taken before the iron perm.

Starting with a two-block cut

My hair was messy before the iron perm, so I put on a gown and the sides were clipped up for a two-block cut. Then the cut was done. The hair was thinned out too and ended up clean and neat.

Shampoo room at Geek Hair Wangsimni

There's a separate shampoo room at the back of the shop. It has four black shampoo chairs with white basins, and each chair comes with cushions supporting your neck and legs, plus towels. The black-and-gray interior with soft indirect lighting felt clean and calm. The space is set up so you can lie back comfortably for a shampoo and hair care, which I liked! 💈

The chair starts out stretched long, and when you press a button it turns into a chair. They also cover your legs with a blanket. The shampoo was done thoroughly.

Prepping the sides and back for a down perm

After the shampoo I went back to the treatment seat and my hair was blow-dried. Then they got ready for the down perm on the sides and back. Designer Juyeong carefully stuck a transparent protective shield on my forehead so the down perm solution wouldn't touch it. I was impressed by the attention to small details! 😊

Men's down perm: applying the solution and heat treatment

The down perm began in earnest! Designer Juyeong spread the solution evenly over the sides and back and combed it carefully so the hair would settle naturally. After applying it, my hair was wrapped in plastic wrap and I waited a while. The waiting time after applying down perm solution is usually around 10–20 minutes, and I was told it can vary with hair condition and the product used. I was impressed by how carefully the treatment was done so the sides would lie calm instead of flaring up! 💈

This is the step where, after the solution and plastic wrap, a heat machine warms the hair. 🔥 Heat machines are placed on both sides of the head to help the solution work on the hair, and I sat and waited during the heat treatment. I was excited to see what style designer Juyeong of Geek Hair, the Wangsimni men's hair specialist, would create! 💈

Complimentary mango juice during the heat treatment

During the heat perm, a staff member gave me a cold mango juice as a freebie. 🥭 It was nice to wait comfortably sipping the sweet mango juice. Next to it sat a silver metal tissue case, decorated with blue packing tape printed with the GEEK logo. The stylish design, like something you'd see in a hip select shop, showed Geek Hair's personality down to the smallest prop! 💙

Shampoo, blow-dry, iron styling and neutralizing

After the heat perm, I went back to the shampoo room and had the down perm product washed out thoroughly. After the shampoo, my hair was blow-dried. After drying came the iron work, and this is with the neutralizer foam applied to the hair.

This time I got a men's iron perm and down perm from designer Juyeong at Geek Hair Wangsimni, a Wangsimni hair salon. The moment I walked in, the combination of silver metal interior and black caught my eye. Unlike an ordinary salon, the hip select-shop atmosphere was impressive.

Above all, I liked that designer Juyeong paid careful, close attention to every step of the treatment. The sides that used to flare up were calmed down with the down perm, and the overall hairstyle came out naturally tidy, which I was happy with.
