Yongsan tteokbokki spot with a self-serve batter bar: Hyeonseonine

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) restaurant in an alley off Exit 6 of Sinyongsan Station in Yongsan, Seoul. A weekend visit around 5pm meant a 40-minute wait, and the mild order arrived as soft wheat rice cakes in a sweet sauce with a gentle heat, best eaten with the unlimited fried batter from the self-serve bar dunked into the broth. With more rice cake than fish cake in the pan, Hyeonseonine suits rice-cake lovers more than fish-cake fans.
